      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at PetSmart in Oct 2010

      Interview

I applied online and recieved a call back within a week from 2 different PetsHotel in the area. Only one of the two could work with my schedule. The assistant manager of the PetsHotel scheduled a one on one interview for a couple days later. I showed up 20 mins early and I was not seen until 15 minutes after my scheduled time due to the PetsHotel Manager out to lunch. The Assistant Manager went ahead with the interview. It was a fun and friendly interview. Asked the basic questions like "why do you want to work here?", "what did you do at your past job?", "tell me about yourself" etc. The Assistant Manager and I got along very well. About half way into the interview the PetsHotel Manager walked in. The Assistant Manager brought to speed about the interview. The Manager then started asking me the same questions. I was given a tour of the hotel by the Assistant Manager and some of the employees told me what to expect when working back there. After the tour I was asked a couple more questions about availibility and when I could start. I was then offered the job on the spot and given a form to take a drug test at a Lab Corp nearby. You only have one day from when they give you the form to take the drug test or your offer expires. The hiring process was the more trickier part. They just had a new hiring system put in so they weren't sure about how it worked. I came in a seperate day to fill out forms saying I agreed to the responsibilites of the job and I had to sign a form saying I had to wait a certain amount of time before I could work at another pet related store. There was paper work for how I was going to recieve my paycheck. The whole process took about an hour and a half. I was paid for that time. The Manager told me that I could start the following Wednesday. Later in the week i received a call from the Manager saying that I wasn't in the system because the paper work wasn't submitted correctly. She scheduled another time the next week to do the paperwork again. The second time I came in I did all the paperwork with one the supervisors and we did all the forms online and she told me that I should be in the system now. The 2nd time took only half an hour and I was also paid for that time. After that I had to study for the Safety Certified Test and another test that I can't remember the name to. For both tests I was able to use the books they gave me to study from. It seemed like the book was outdated compared to the test so I had to guess at some of the answers. I had to come in 2 seperate days to the 2 tests. For the Safety Certified Test you have to pass at a 100% or you have to take it again. I think you have 2 more chances after the first one you fail. For the other test you only had to get a 80% and if you failed you could take it again. For both tests I got 100% and both managers were impressed by it. I was also paid for the time I came in to take the tests. On the second day I took the test after I finished I immediately started training. Overall the interview process and hiring process was a positive experience. I understood that the hiring system was new so they didnt' work out all the bugs. After my hiring, the system worked a lot better so when others were hired it was a lot quicker than mine.
