Interviewed Sep 2010 in La Crosse, WI (took 2 days)
You have to apply in-store so I came in and applied. After a couple days I received a phone call and they asked me to come in for an interview. I sat down with the store manager for about an hour and talked about my previous retail experience. I felt pretty good about the interview and he said he gets a lot applicants but can only hire 1-2 and doesn't interview everyone. He asked some situational questions but really just wanted to know how I would fit in there, selling furniture.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Fort Worth, TX (took 3 weeks)
The screening interview involved the hiring manager. She asked several questions and then I was asked to come for an interview. The interview seemed to go well and the hiring manager seemed genuinely interested. The interview occurred just before the holiday season between 2011 and 2012. The follow thru was not good. I attempted sending a message to the hiring manager and communicating with the recruiter but to no avail: they would get back with me - was the response. Neither responded. Two days before the interview I had no idea whether I was to appear for the interview or not and the recruiter responded that a lot of people were just getting back from the holidays. Essentially an interview had been set for a date and time they weren't prepared to keep. No follow-up occurred - no apology - no sense that they might interview me later. The actions of two management people certainly spoke volumes for the organization.

Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 1 week)
Applied online, received a call within an hour of applying. Phone Interview consisted of pre-designated questions read directly off a sheet. Very basic.
Why do you want to work here?
Do you shop here?
Define what customer service is to you.
What would you do in "X" situation.
VERY easy. 1 on 1 interview was more of the same questions above, re-hashed in specific scenarios.
Days later, had an interview with the regional manager. This one was REALLY long. Close to 2 hours. His questions were very specific. I think it lasted as long as it did because we had an instant rapport with each other and just clicked. He was very easy going and a pleasure to talk to. I was offered the job after he compared notes with my interview with the store manager. I'm sure he just touched base to see if we would be a good fit with each other in the store I applied to.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 weeks)
i filled out an in-store application (which was nice, simple, and very comfortable) and had a brief in-person quasi-interview with the manager on duty who briefly explained the position and hours to me and told me she would be in touch. about a week and a half later she called me and asked me if i could come in for an interview thursday of that week, explained to me that it would be a group interview and role-playing will be involved. it was an interactive and comfortable environment and we were all told we would be contacted within the next few days.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 3 days)
I found out there was a position open on Monster. I applied on line. I waited aproximately 3 or 4 days with no response. I called my local Pier 1, and asked for the DM's phone #, and called her. She was glad to hear form me, said I was on her list to call today. We talked shortly and scheduled a phone interview the next day. I then had a 1 on 1 interview in the store. Everything was looking really positive, but they ended up going with someone else.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Kalamazoo, MI (took a day)
My interview was with a group of 5, including myself. The assistant manager asked us to sit in a circle and answer questions, and we were invited to jump in if we had an answer to a question that wasn't directly asked of us. He would start with a question and ask one person, then ask if anyone had anything to add and then ask the next person the next question. Some of the questions were "Tell me about a time when you received excellent customer service?" and "What techniques do you use to help get sales from a customer?" We also had to explain why we wanted the job and why we chose Pier 1. Then there was a short hands on portion, where the assistant manager would ask each of us to sell him something from around the store. He would point to candles for example, and ask what we would suggest to the customer to help add to their purchase, such as candle holders, etc. Then we were paired up and asked to role play a shopper and a customer. Overall it was pretty easy if you had genuine answers to the questions they asked.
