Interviewed May 2012 (took 2 weeks)
I had received a generic email from the company stating that their stores were hiring. When I went to the closest to me, they had a "Now Accepting Applications" sign up so I decided to give it a shot. I filled out an application right in the store. It was the typical work experience/school/etc application + it had a couple of pages that were a bit like those online personality tests that job applications have. I guess they decided to make it easier on themselves by printing it out. I attached my own resume to the application and left it with one of the associates. A couple of days later I received a call to come in for a group interview, which was a couple days after that. The group interview went really well. I've grown to love them since you get to hear other people's answers and whatnot. It was set up in a way that the manager would ask a question aloud and whoever wanted to go (there were 5-6 of us) we would go and take turns answering. The environment was relaxed, some of us were visibly nervous, but honestly, it's nothing to worry too much about. I was expecting a call in about two weeks but a couple days after my interview, I got a call and was offered the job!

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Longview, TX (took 3 days)
I went to the store and got two papers; one being the link to an online application and the other a written application. I turned in the written the next day, and the online didn't work so I had to call and get another link. The online application was a huge pain, but (according to the manager of my store) I did extremely well on it. It asked what you would do in a majority of situations. I got a call the day after I finished both and had an interview the next day. Wore a striped dress, cardigan and flats. The interview mostly consisted of asking of how I'd reacted in situations in other jobs and how I'd solve problems, etc.. I'd never worked retail before so there were a few times I just told her I couldn't think of how to relate to it. She said it was okay and basically gave me the answers she was looking for (which was extremely helpful and I learned from the things she told me). At the end of the interview, she offered me the job.
My friend also turned in an application and they offered him an interview on the spot, although that interview wasn't for another week.

Interviewed Dec 2010 (took a day)
The interview wasn't stressful. It was almost like a conversation concerning how I would respond to various sceniaros. Stay calm, be confident, and use common sense and you will be offered the position.

Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 2 weeks)
I initially applied in the store. After a few weeks I was called to arrange an interview. The interview was one on one with the store manager in the store. The interview was straightforward with most questions relating to how you would approach different situations with customers and how you would help to increase sales. The answers to questions could be both real life experiences or hypothetical if you hadn't been in such a situation being asked about. Everyone was beyond friendly during the process. The store manager was so friendly during the interview, as were all the other associates and assistant managers I encountered while coming and going.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 weeks)
i filled out an in-store application (which was nice, simple, and very comfortable) and had a brief in-person quasi-interview with the manager on duty who briefly explained the position and hours to me and told me she would be in touch. about a week and a half later she called me and asked me if i could come in for an interview thursday of that week, explained to me that it would be a group interview and role-playing will be involved. it was an interactive and comfortable environment and we were all told we would be contacted within the next few days.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Kalamazoo, MI (took a day)
My interview was with a group of 5, including myself. The assistant manager asked us to sit in a circle and answer questions, and we were invited to jump in if we had an answer to a question that wasn't directly asked of us. He would start with a question and ask one person, then ask if anyone had anything to add and then ask the next person the next question. Some of the questions were "Tell me about a time when you received excellent customer service?" and "What techniques do you use to help get sales from a customer?" We also had to explain why we wanted the job and why we chose Pier 1. Then there was a short hands on portion, where the assistant manager would ask each of us to sell him something from around the store. He would point to candles for example, and ask what we would suggest to the customer to help add to their purchase, such as candle holders, etc. Then we were paired up and asked to role play a shopper and a customer. Overall it was pretty easy if you had genuine answers to the questions they asked.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in White Plains, NY (took 2 weeks)
I filled out an application in the store, and handed it to a sales associate, who then asked me several questions about myself on the spot. He then told me to come back in a few days for a group interview. I also had to fill out an online personality test with some math questions. The group interview was very laid back and about an hour long, and the store manager assured all of us that she would get back to us within 5 days. However, no one ever contacted me, and when I tried calling the store for the store manager's contact information, the person on the phone would not tell me if the decisions have been sent out and said I would have to wait for someone to call.
Update: It has been a few weeks, and I never received a call. They didn't even have the decency to tell me that I didn't get the position. What a waste of time.
