Interviewed Oct 2011 in Seattle, WA (took 6 weeks)
I first met the Progressive recruiters at a University Career Fair and followed up with an online application. Within minutes of filling out the application I received an email prompting me to take an online test which consisted of mathematical and work preference questions. After taking the test, I received an email saying that I passed it and would be contacted for an interview. I was called the next day and scheduled an interview. The recruiter who scheduled the interview was very helpful and eased me into the process giving me pointers on what to study up for and sending me an email with a link that showed their most common behavioral questions. The phone interview was pretty standard and felt more like a conversation than an interview. It was my first interview of the kind so I was a bit nervous at first but the tone of the interviewer and the type of questions she asked helped me to relax. At the end of the interview she told me that she would promote me for the next step which is a 1:1 on site interview about a month and a half out. She also said that the background process would take a while and that I should expect some emails directing me to answer questions about my work background. The phone interview took place about two weeks ago and I have yet to receive word from the recruiter confirming the on site interview or see any background emails.

Began with a phone interview, several weeks later conducted an in person interview. About a month later I was notified that I was still in the running for the position. Then about three weeks after that I was informed that I was not selected for the position. All in all the interview process took about two and a half months.

Interviewed May 2009 (took 5 days)
1. Online application
2. Contacted to come to branch office to complete IQ and personality assessment
- Be honest but also think about the underlying reason for why they're asking certain questions (think teamwork, consequences, morals and values)
3. Credit, driving record checks
4. Phone interview with recruiter- behavioral-based interview
- last for about an hour so prepare but don't get too worked up about these questions as they didn't ask the most difficult behavioral-based questions when I was interviewed
5. Interview with regional director- straight-forward
6. Contacted with job offer within 1-2 business days

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Mayfield Heights, OH (took 2 months)
After completing a short online basic skills test, I received an email that I was to be further considered for the position. It took two months and numerous email inquiries later in order to get a phone interview; of which I was never given a formal decision. Apparently the HR Representative couldn't even send a letter denying the position, which is just tacky.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Phoenix, AZ (took 2 weeks)
First a recuiter calls and gives you a phone interview, usually last between 1-1.5 hours. If you pass the interview you go on to take an assessment test on site. If you pass the test you move on to 2 face to face interviews. The interviews are for the same day and last at least 1.5 hours each. If you are chosen at that point you have to pass a background check and you're in.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took 4+ weeks)
You first take a test online. Assuming you pass that test, you are scheduled for a phone interview. After the phone interview, you will be contacted to schedule an in person interview with a Claim Manager or someone at that level or higher. The interviews are formatted around behavioral questions. It would be wise to learn how to answer these questions in a STAR (Situation, Action/Task, Result) format.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 4 months)
I'd been waiting until the entire process was finished before I posted a review, but this was the absolute WORST interview process I've ever had. I'll try to keep the review as detailed as possible without sounding too long-winded, but forgive me in advance....it's long.
I applied for the position online in April. I heard from a 3rd party recruiter the next week, requesting a pre-screen interview. Here's a summary of that interaction:
1) Quick prescreen phone interview
2) I followed up with an email a week later
3) They scheduled a more in-depth prescreen phone interview (~20 minutes) a week later
4) I followed up with an email a week later after not hearing anything
5) Another email two weeks later asking for a status update
I get an email from a different recruiter, explaining that Progressive had dropped the third party recruiting agency. They requested a new series of prescreen interviews, this time with their "general" recruiter. Here's a summary of that interaction:
1) Quick prescreen phone interview
2) Follow up email a week and a half later
3) They send me an update (the update is "no update")
4) Follow up two weeks later
5) They send me an email (the update is "I'll have the HR recruiter get a hold of you")
The HR recruiter emails me, and she is my only positive experience through the process (of all the people I talked to, she's the only one that emails and calls when she says she will, which is usually the same day). She says that she wants to schedule a phone interview with the person who currently holds the position (as they're being groomed for promotion).
I interview with that person (the current Information Systems Security Analyst-Lead), who offers some hope in explaining that she's aware of how "grueling" the interview process is at Progressive, and advises me to "hang in there".
1) After the email, I send follow up "thank-you" emails to the HR recruiter and the ISS Analyst that interviewed me.
2) After two weeks, I email them requesting a status update
The HR recruiter emails me and says she wants to have me talk to the IT recruiter (the one who originally emailed me about dropping the third party agency). We schedule another phone interview. Here's a summary of that interaction:
1) He rambles for about 45 minutes about reorganizations, with no information about me or the position.
2) Says that the next step from here is an on-site interview, and he'll get back to me tomorrow about setting that up.
3) He emails me the next day and says that he doesn't have the information he needs to set up the next step, and that he'll call me tomorrow.
4) A week later, I email him, no answer.
5) Two weeks later, I call him, no answer.
6) A week later, i email him, no answer.
I email the HR recruiter, just to find out if the position is even open anymore. I then finally receive a rejection email from the IT recruiter, citing "improper fit for role" as the reason for rejection, despite confirming both verbally and via email that I would be flown out for an on-site interview soon.
It basically reached a point where I had given up on the job itself, but I was simply determined to see the entire process through just to see where it would lead. Today, I found out.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Mayfield Heights, OH (took 1 week)
Didn't pass the personality assessment. Not sure what they are looking for, but I have never been turned down for a job based on the personality test, and I am confident that I did well on the IQ test. At least the recruiter let me know right away the results and that Progressive wasn't going to consider me.
