Answer - if you recognize that a mistake is made then you shoudl immediately point this out to the customer and ask to review their records to ensure if a mistake was made. By doing this, you let the customer know something is wrong and that you wish to get to the bottom of it regardless if it ends up being in your financial favor or NOT. This helps build trust with customer AND management and trust helps build long and rewarding business relationships.
