Interviewed Mar 2012 (took 1 week)
I went in for an interview and the dm was real nice. he asked questions about sales and how do you do external selling. Radio Shack wanted me to work 50-55 hours for 28,000 a year with potential bonuses that i might make 35,000. Way too much work and hours for that amount of money. The guy keeps calling acting like we never interviewed trying to get me to come back in. Insane and crazy!!!! i rated this interview experience as negative because what they were offering was not worth my time with all my retail mgmt experience.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Canton, OH (took 3 weeks)
I completed an application on-line with a personality and skills test included. I was called about two weeks later by the district manager to schedule an interview. I completed 1:1 interview, it only took about 20 minutes. During the interview, I reviewed my past employment, had to role play selling a phone. He took a copy of my drivers license at that point. He told me he would be in contact. About a week later he asked if I could meet with him again, he offered the job pending a background check. I received a call about three days later and was told I passed my background check. I had to log on to fill out a second application and some other information. I started working two days later.

very smooth if you have the experience in sales with phones and know exactly what you need to drive and be successful in this company. first was a phone interview, then it lead to a one on one interview with the district manager. then i had to work a week with the district manager. with me catching on really quickly it only took about 3 days.

They tell you you are going to make a great deal of money... that sales are easy and bonuses are plentiful. It's all smoke and mirrors. You are going to basically make the low salary only.

Interviewed Jun 2010 (took 1+ week)
The initial Hiring process begins online, where you'll take a personality test, and a skills test to see if you qualify. Oddly enough, now that I do interviews, I can say, it's more important to just answer honestly, than to answer the questions the way you think we want them to be. Next would be a Fast phone interview to make sure youre interested, and meet some minimum requirements such as being able to get to the store, and so on.
Next is the 1:1 Interview. Since almost all of Radioshack's District managers are new ( Radioshack has well over a 100% annual turn over rate in all of the field jobs such as sales associate manager, DM, RSD, etc) You can BS your way into a store in no time, Simply Talk about Wireless phones, and how you want to sell them most of all, than add in a few sprinkles of Selling accessories, and helping customers use the items, and of course, Extended Warranties. If you keep the conversation about those things, you'll be hired nearly on the spot.
Of course, there will be interview questions like " tell me about a time you weren't able to help someone" Just make up something that sounds good, but includes you finding something else they needed. Works every time for these rookie DM's

Negotiation Details
Negotiations? There aren't any, in Radioshack, it's take it or get the hell out! Trying to negotiate will essentially put you on the list of Do Not Hire - Problem Maker. Also, they will try to sell you on the job like an amway rep, saying things like You'll probably make around XX after bonus's DO NOT expect to ever recieve a bonus here, it's rigged so you almost can't, Sales plans are adjusted constantly to avoid paying anyone a bonus, so ask simply what your Base pay is, And don't expect more.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Cedar Rapids, IA (took 2 weeks)
I was called for an interview with DM. Basic performance interview mixed with good interpersaonal interaction. Interview next day by phone with AM. Recieved offer the next day for $27k yearly plus bonus and commision for a blue sky expectation of $42k yearly.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Refused Job as they are not looking for actual store managers but to give a title to a very low qualified person. They claim to want talent but there pay scale is going to limit them to desperate people, or inexperienced people.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in San Fernando, CA (took 4+ weeks)
Radio Shack is a recognizable name in the retail industry. It also has been on the decline in the last several years, like many other retailers. I have been in retail for 20 years and had been investigating some claims that Radio Shacks hiring practice and recruiting might have something to do with their downward sales and customer service trend. I interviewed with the DSM for another DSM position or a Store Management position with advancement possibilities. The DSM talked about sales and spifs, and payroll hour compliance. But not about customer service and achieving sales goals. He didn't give any examples of his favorite employees or mangers, and what made them successful. I didn't get a sense that he cared about his people a whole lot, or that he talked or trainned with them in the areas of marketing, sales and customer service. That made me walk into a few store and ask around. First, I challenge any of you to walk into 5 Radio Shacks in the Northern Los Angeles- SFV area and see if you are greeted and if the sales team has any passion for sales. You're probably gonna find that about 20% of the employees show any kind of enthusiasm. Secondly, ask the same 5 stores for the DSM's contact info and most recent scheduled visit date and you'll get about the same 20% informed response. I talked to one customer that said she called the DSM for a month without response on a customer service issue, that she asked to speak the DSM about. I want to shop where the sales people are inviting and knowledgeable. And I want to work either with a Team that cares or in a position where I can influence and air of caring enthusiasm and dedicated work ethic....I hate to say it, but with the exception of a few stores with passionate teams, Radio Shack to far from where is used to be.......
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
I declined there offer because the DSM didn't seem to care about his people. And the people I talked to (5 different Stores) confirmed that they didn't see the company goni in a good direction. With really high turnover, they didn't seem to be building a team for success. The quality people they hire don't stay! Big red flag!!! The DSM seems to only care about if you can work 50 hours for salary insteady of hourly (payroll issues). He doesn't talk team, passion (enthusiasm), or customer service in terms of being successful or reaching and/or exceeding sales goals. He didn't act like he cared about his people, his products, or his customers!!!
