Senior Software Engineer at Reddwerks Corporation

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Austin, TX Dec 2012 – Reviewed Jan 9, 2013

Interview Details – First round is standard HR go over the resume stuff, nothing tricky. Second round is technical. There was whiteboard coding. A group panel style, which I like more than one-on-one because if someone is not being clear, then another perspective can be sought out.

1. Object Orient Design of a warehouse with x number of shelves, each shelf is y unit wide, and there are a,b,c,d type of boxes (with varied size of units)

2. Tree traversal, better know recursion.

3. Java method for whether a given int is prime number (brute force is fine, didn't go into efficiency)

Surprised that there wasn't any SQL questions.

Interview Question – Nothing hard. I was expecting more of a design level questions (patterns)   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I asked what was the worst part of your job and the manager respond with 'telling my dev to stay late and work weekends'... wow.

Controls Engineer at Reddwerks Corporation

No Offer – Interviewed in Austin, TX Jul 2012 – Reviewed Aug 6, 2012

Interview Details – I only had one interview. The interview consisted of talking with 3 people in a comfortable break room type environment. I talked to one of their controls engineers and the manager of that group. They were friendly and didn't make me feel uncomfortable. Some technical questions, but nothing extreme.

Interview Question – There were a number of extremely general managerial type questions. I've never liked those since I feel like I am BSing the entire time.   Answer Question

Senior Software Engineer at Reddwerks Corporation

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Austin, TX Sep 2011 – Reviewed Feb 14, 2012

Interview Details – My interview process was very unusual for this company. I was asked at 10am if I could meet for a 4p interview the same day. I was first asked to sit in on a Web Design review meeting, then had a 1 hour interview with the Vice President of Software. That was a whiteboard problem solving and personality interview, with one difficult problem. I was then asked to sit with one Senior Software Engineer for >1 hour of whiteboard coding. Apparently they liked what I had to say.

Interview Question – Given the current room was filled with golfballs, would you accept $2000 to remove them all over a weekend without destroying the room?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – They suggested that they wanted me the next day and they accepted the first salary proposal with no balking. I accepted the offer with no haggling. We had to do some negotiation around technology created in my personal time, but that worked out easily over a few days.

Analyst at Reddwerks Corporation

No Offer – Interviewed in Austin, TX Jul 2011 – Reviewed Jul 22, 2011

Interview Details – I got a phone screen with a recruiter, who seemed to care every detail in my resume. Then the recruiter scheduled a phone interview with an analyst in Reddwerks. The analyst just wanted to know if I had a simulation experience in Java. That's it.

Finally, I was asked to solve a problem, which missed a lot of information. But it looked like the manager had a unique standard solution and my answer differed from their solution. So said good luck to me.

Very bad impression about Reddwerks hiring process. Very focused on a particular skill and asked you to be in the same line with them. Not recommend!

Interview Questions

  • Questions from the recruiter were typical screening questions, but very detailed oriented. The recruiter cared extremely about your all GPAs.   Answer Question
  • Did you have any related experience in simulation?   Answer Question
