Interviewed Aug 2009 (took 2 weeks)
Initially I posted my resume on CareerBuilder and was contacted by a recruiter. The recruiter interviewed me over the phone before passing along my information to the Rehab Director. I was then called in to do an interview with the Program Director and take a tour of the facility. It was a very laid back interview which made it easier to ask and answer questions.

Interviewed May 2011 in Munster, IN (took a day)
Tardy response from the recruiter. Interviewer condescending. Questions about previous experience. He took the time to explain the workflow. Environment depressing, people dragging their feet, was met with stares, stressed out, no laughter.

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took 4 days)
Basically, not much. They were desperate at the time. Just applied and BOOM I was hired after short talk on phone. In fact, I called the recruiter, put in an application, then went to visit the building. When at the building, before even getting my therapy licensure, I felt very pressured to accept the job.

They will take advantage of you if you do not know what others in your area are being paid. Do your research first. You should start with a very high number first, because if you don't, then they will offer you a very low, even laughable number. If you don't know any better, you might take that low number and there is no more negotiation after you are hired and find out you were duped. This advice is especially for new grads. Look around. Try several companies to see what is being offered.

Interviewed Apr 2009 (took a day)
Hiring process and interview went very quickly. Spoke with the recruiter for the first time on Friday, interviewed on Monday and was given a verbal offer by Monday afternoon. Granted, this facility is in rural TN and the need for SLPs is great. I don't think they wanted to waste much time looking all over the place. The offer was decent but I knew they were low-balling me.
The interviewer asked me several clinically based questions which I appreciated. It made me feel like I was more than just a warm body to fill the position. She truly did care about what I know.

I have yet to go through the negotiation phase.....I hope it will be easy. I'm going to use the fact that they don't offer tuition forgiveness as leverage.
