Interviewed Jan 2012 in Baltimore, MD (took 5 days)
The interview process was talk with a recruiter on the phone, meet with a District Manager, do an observation day and then tell them you want the job. The interview was kind of a joke because you do not know what job you were hired for until the day you start. Also, make sure you realize that their training consists of absolutely nothing but working in the warehouse fixing furniture, cleaning the managers store and then going out by yourself to do customer warranty service calls. The first few days you will watch a few videos, but nothing really related to actually helping you do your job.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Sacramento, CA (took a day)
Applied online on Tuesday and received a call for an interview for the following Monday on Friday evening. The man that contacted me was nice and asked if I could come in and gave me detailed directions to the location of the store that the interview was going to take place. I arrived on time and met with the hiring manager. It seems that the location I applied to was not hiring, but a location a bit farther from me. He asked me pretty much everything the online application asked me. He also asked me a lot of situational questions. He was interviewing over 90 candidates for a new store that was opening, but there were only 4 actual positions available. He seemed really exhausted, but still was very nice and focused on the interview. He ended the interview explaining that I applied to an entry-level position and I was not entry-level. He suggested I appy to the AM position also to see what happened. He said that if I heard from him in the next week, I would be going to a second interview if not, then HR decided to go with other candidates. I really appreciated his honesty letting me know where I stood. I don't think I'll be hearing back, but it was a great experience all the same.
Also, as for the culture, it was upbeat and friendly. There was only one person that came into the store while I was initially waiting and he was just making a payment. However, the lady at the counter was helpful and nice. The store was clean and looked well kept. The other employees in a different room with large windows were working, possibly making sales calls, but also seemed to be having a good time occasionally chit chattting with each other in between calls. Seemed like a great and positive work environment to be in, especially since is was later in the day (after 5 o'clock).
My advice is to be positive and be yourself. These people want to know who you are and get to know your personality. Be honest and straightforward too, considering they do background checks and will find out if you lied on your application.
Since this was a entry-level sales/customer service position, I interviewed in nice slacks and a button up shirt. If I was interviewing for a management position, I would have definitely stepped it up a bit since the interviewer was wearing a jacket and tie.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 5 days)
You will be contacted by a representative and they go over a few questions over the phone before scheduling you for a 1:1 interview. Not sure if there is anything else after that, because once I told them my availability the interview was pretty much over. If you are a student, don't bother applying here. They will NOT work around your school schedule.

If you are a prospecting employee, there are a few things that should be noted before you begin the process. The first interview you will receive will be via phone. The area code may through you off because it's from Texas, but you're asked s few basic questions to see if you are serious about the job. It helps to ask questions of your own to show your interest. Questions such as "what are the challenges to this position", or What are the rewarding aspects of the position" are just a few to show your interest. Being that you are trying to get into a job that is reliant on communication, I would greatly advise you prepare yourself with potential questions that may be asked. Having a decent layout of your current or previous job description gives the employer an idea of your experience. Having a good reason for leaving, or wanting to leave your employer is a must. They don't want anyone who's only there to collect a pay check. The job has long hours and they're looking for someone who is both serious and reliable. I'd like to disclose a few interview questions that were asked, but it'd better prepare you if you kept a broad knowledge of what to say (so you don't seem rehearsed).
If you make it past the first interview with human resources, you'll be setup with an interview with the store manager in person. I highly recommend having a resume and presentation. A presentation isn't required bit if your decent at power point, you can show the employer that you are creative and are willing to go the extra mile. Presentations don't have to be done by computer either. Having a nice paper presentation works as well. In this interview, you will be asked a few similar questions to that of your first interview.
I like to advise being yourself and having a few examples of when you have gone the extra mile or shown integrity. If you do well here, you will be able to have your final interview with the distric manager (which I skipped because the store manager was positive I was a great candidate)
Its fairly simple, and If your comfortable with yourself and your experience, you should have no problem getting the job. Best of luck to you all. If hot a hard worker, and would like decent pay, this could be the career for you.

Interviewed Jan 2010 (took a day)
The hiring process was very pleasant. The interview didn't last no more than a half an hour. The questions were basic and were generally about customer service and sales skills. Met with the district manager, store manager, and sales lead. All were one on one. Everyone was laid back.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Bremerton, WA (took a day)
I happened to be in the store to rent when I over heard that they had just had an employee leave. I asked for an application and told the manager I wanted to apply and could start immeadiately. She had me come back two days later and did a quick interview. she didn't ask many important questions, I think she just wanted someone to fill the position quickly. She had me do a couple quick knowledge and reasoning tests on the computer and then go do a drug test accross town. I heard back the next day.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Espanola, NM (took 1 week)
Was contacted by a recruiter via email in which I applied online at rent-a-center and informed the recruiter that I had applied. They then contacted me and conducted a brief phone interview that consisted of some personality questions and asked if there would be any conflicts with schedules. I was contacted a few days later and scheduled for an in store interview. The interview was one on one with a manager from another store. He asked me about my background and if I was comfortable with making collections. I was then given a personality test and math/IQ test which I passed. I was told he would contact me the next day whether I was chosen or not. He didn't. Oh well, the job probably wasn't for me and I probably didn't receive an offer since I am not bilingual.
