Interviewed Mar 2009 in Ottawa, ON (Canada) (took a day)
I applied through RIM's website and was contacted by HR via email about scheduling a phone interview. The actual interview was conducted by the hiring manager and his entire team, which consisted about 6 people. They all took turn asking technical questions in succession. Almost all questions were about Java. The entire phone interview lasted about 1 to 2 hours.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Ottawa, ON (Canada) (took a day)
The Interview consisted of to-the-point questions, mostly technical. Did not get enough time to discuss prior experience or academic background. The interviewers were friendly and precisely described the job role and expectations from a co-op/intern.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in Ottawa, ON (Canada) (took 3 weeks)
Not a fun place to interview. The interviewers seemed fairly antagonistic like they were looking for something wrong with you and assuming the worst. There were programming test like questions but there wasn't really any opportunity to discuss and work on anything. That is, no real feedback or interaction, just answer the question and move on. The background check process was particularly offensive and onerous - you need proof of employment and transcripts for everything you've ever done plus they have a foreign (in this case American) company doing the background screening which feels like an invasion of privacy.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Ottawa, ON (Canada) (took 5 weeks)
I had applied for several jobs on the RIM website, and I had a complete profile on RIM's taleo website. RIM HR contacted me for a phone interview for a job posting I hadn't applied for yet. The interviewer went over details from my resume, as well as asked some behavioural questions.
although the interview went well, I didn't make it to the hiring manager interview stage. I found out about a month later that I was screened out.
