Interviewed Apr 2011 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took a day)
Setup a meeting date with the manager of the team for the position of Application Developer, he asked me a bunch of profiling questions such as what I look for in a company or where I would like to be in a few years. After this the technical interview started, this was heavily database oriented, do you know the difference between different types of joins, can you create schema with so and so relationships, etc. After this was the written part (on a whiteboard) where I was given a problem solving question...something along the lines of "how would you go about finding out how many mechanic shops are in this city, doesn't have to be correct but mathematically take me through your process". After all this (roughly an hour interview) I received a call back two days late and accepted the job offer.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took a day)
Initially I talked with the recruiter on campus who came to our university to promote RIM. I spent about 30 minutes with that recruiter and we went over some of the positions available at that time. After she went back to Waterloo, I received an invitation for a phone interview later.
The phone interview was conducted by both the technical lead and the team lead. The person asking those questions were the technical lead. After I passed the phone interview, I was asked to write a short skill test exam which involved two questions.
One of the questions was to write a linked list class in C# or C++ with the standard operations such as insertion and deletion of a node.

Interviewed May 2011 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took 2 days)
RIM has a well organized recruiting fair that it uses to sift through all applicants to find it's key prospects and candidates. I was surprised at the average age of the employees and staff involved. RIM seems to have a very young workforce. The interview process and people were very professional and positive. Upon talking closely with the various staff, I was also surprised at the level of work experience, both in total and with RIM itself. It was common that the current employees had only been in their positions for several months to 1 or 2 years. People with 5+ years in RIM were extremely rare. As mentioned before, most employees seem to be fresh graduates or with a couple to few years experience. The company campus was extensive and impressive. The company is well organized and has a small business environment with a large, youthful staff, which is why I suspect turnover is high and also due to high degree of university hiring.

Reason for Declining
Due to the highly unstable future of RIM and the numerous negative business and financial outlooks it seems to be plagued with, further pursuit was postponed.

Interviewed Nov 2009 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took a day)
Applied online and was contacted about a phone interview with an HR specialist.
Carried out a 35 minute interview with an HR person. Interview was the usual HR interview and touched on my past experience, accomplishments, fit with the job being applied for, etc.
Heard nothing back and contacted HR person two weeks later and she indicated the manager was still reviewing. Never heard anything back...

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took a day)
I applied online using RIM's careers job board for an internship position. Once the position closed, RIM contacted my campus hiring office ( even though i applied directly). They told me to confirm the interview appointment. The interview process was pretty straight forward and all the questions weren't targeted at my previous work experience and the project simulations i performed in 3 years of uni. unlike my previous rim interviews, in this interview the interviewers called me up and all of them were on the phone already. Three interviewers were on the phone, one was a department director, a senior manager and the intern on that position from last year. My interview was on Thursday and the offer was made on friday ( after my first interview for another position it took around 2 weeks, just for the response), the offer package arrived after 4 weeks, after i sent them an email inquiring about the status of it( they shipped next day after i sent them an email). Overall very pleasant experience in the hiring process, will post a review about the job after i join the position...

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took 1 week)
Screening Interview with internal recruiter - very easy though the recruiter was not very personable, phone Interview with hiring manager - not very difficult as the hiring manager was quite clear about expectations and there were no trick questions. group interview in person with hiring manager and colleagues - not too challenging although the interview process was quite disorganized and not very well facilitated. got the job in the end.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Waterloo, ON (Canada) (took a day)
First applied through my schools coop department and on their website. Received an email telling me that they were reviewing my resume for the position of firmware developer. Then received an email with an interview date and time, wrote back and confirmed the information. The interview itself was very technical, make sure you have a good grasp of C, especially pointers and memory management.
