Interviewed May 2011 in Milwaukee, WI (took 2 months)
Everyone was very kind, somewhat informal. Presentation was well received and they offered good feedback. The questions were expected interview questions. This is a small firm and anecdotes and personal sharing didn't seem inappropriate. Midwestern values, focus on content and character.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Presentation.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Milwaukee, WI (took 2 months)
The hiring process typically consists of 1-2 phone interviews and 5-6 interviews in person if one makes it past the phone interview stage. My initial phone interview was approximately 45 minutes long with a Senior Equity Research Associate. I am still waiting to see if I have made it to the next round of in-person interviews. I was told this could take two weeks or 1-2 months depending on the applicant pool. All of the folks granted a phone interview are graded and then aggregated into a general pool at which point a group of the most senior equity research members pick whom they would like to interview in-person. Offers supposedly made quickly after the in-person interviews.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Milwaukee, WI (took 3 weeks)
Extensive math / quantitative exam and writing test that was very similar to the most difficult questions on the GMAT. Be prepared to discuss why you would belong well at Baird and in research as fit is a big indicator of interview success as Baird culture is extremely important. You should display a strong interest in the capital markets, in addition to the specific sector you are interviewing for, and be ready to pitch a specific stock and walk through a formal discounted cash flow, comparable transaction, LBO, or other valuation methods.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Milwaukee, WI (took 3 weeks)
The process started with a phone interview which took 15 minutes. I was later in for two separate 1:1 interviews on the same day. A week later I was called in again for three separate 1:1 interviews in one session and a general skills test. After all that, it took a good week and a half to get word back that I had been passed on. Overall, the interview process goes very smoothly.

Interviewed May 2010 in Milwaukee, WI (took 2 days)
I received a first round phone interview essentially asking me about my resume and some of my interests. The second round interview was in Milwaukee at Baird's HQ. There I had 4 interviews with 5 people. One was a 2 on 1 interview which was technical and the others were mostly fit with more senior bankers. The technical interview asked how the financial statements interlinked and some other basic accounting questions. They also asked about a DCF and how to determine WACC. A few brainteasers were also thrown in there. For example, what is the degree between the hour and minute hand at 3:15? They also asked how long it would take me to run from Chicago to Milwaukee. You just have to make some assumptions about distance and how fast you can run (e.g. assume I can run a constant 6 minute mile). They called me the day of my final round interview and offered me the internship.

Negotiation Details
I did not negotiate because I wanted to work there and other offers were still pending. The negotiating power is much stronger for full time hires.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Milwaukee, WI (took 4 weeks)
To start the HR department contacted me very quickly to set up a 30 minute phone interview. The interview consisted mostly of basic interview questions and a glance over my resume. When the interview ended the woman on the phone told me about the process ahead and said she would contact me in the near future if I was considered. I'm currently in that in between period.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Milwaukee, WI (took 4+ weeks)
The first step is to be contacted by an HR representative. This consists of a 25 minute surface scratch of your resume and some fairly stock interview questions. I was then told to prepare a stock pitch for the next round of interviews. Three weeks later I received an interview asking if I would be interested in interviewing with a current associate. The associate was kind. The interview was very informal for the first 10 minutes or so and then came a good 25 minutes of accounting specific questions. This was followed up by a stock pitch. Warning for any academics. The pitches are to be briefs not standard stock pitches. Highlight 3 summary points with justification and a recommendation.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Milwaukee, WI (took 3 weeks)
Had two phone interviews and an in-person 1:1 with 2 different people. Everyone was very nice and seemed geniunely interested in finding me a "fit" within the company. I applied online and received a phone call within a business day asking to set up a phone interview. 1st phone interview was with a recruiter hired to screen for RWBaird. After over a week had a 2nd phone interview with dept head. All was very positve, all questions very easy and more toward personality than anything technical. In person was two weeks later and while more technical, still pretty light on the questions. Seven days passed with no word, then told I was still in the running but there were other more qualified candidates. I should check back with them in a few weeks.

Interviewed Feb 2010 in Milwaukee, WI (took 1 week)
I first got a phone interview, they wanted to know my background went over my resume and heard back from them very soon. I had a second interview with the hiring manager I felt it went pretty good, however he said it was a competetive position. Got an e-mail that said I wasn't considered anymore
