Interviewed Jan 2012 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
Applied online, and was invited to assessment centre. This consisted of a 1:1 interview with a manager from the division you'd applied for, which mainly dealt with competencies and motivation, with one question on economics. This lasted 25 minutes. The next phase was a logical reasoning test, which was very difficult and noone finished. The entire process lasted no more than 90 minutes.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took 8 weeks)
Received phone call for interview, agreed on time, date & location.
Interview 1 : Interviewed by two potential new work mates. Informal conversation, discussion of CV, relaxed friendly & approachable. Process of recruitment explained , " 1 interview, review than second interview, followed by offer if applicable " Duration of interview 1 = 45 Minutes
Receive no contact for working week, receive a phone call to arrange a second interview, agreed on time date & location.
Interview 2: Interviewed by Head of department, initially double booked, left wait for an hour in the lobby, finally met with interview, once again approach relaxed & friendly. Turnaround time on feedback / offer not stated when queried.
Feedback / Offer: No feedback after a week - call to leave alternative number to be contacted on and confirm all other contact details. Receive no further feedback for a week, chased again. No further response from company for 2 weeks. When an attempt to arrange an conversation to provide feedback occurs, despite several attempts, no feedback ever received. A thoroughly disappointing experience which has poorly reflected on a company which is already struggling to maintain a reputable image.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
I applied for the Client Coverage and Advisory programme under Global Banking with RBS. After a month of submitting the (very lengthy) application form, and taking some psychometric tests, I had a phone call from the RBS recruitment team inviting me to a competency interview and further psychometric testing at London. in three days time. I had to travel to London from Glasgow, and was told I would be reimbursed for travel and accommodation costs. Although I heard that other candidates had been informed earlier, thereby giving them more preparation time, I agreed to the date. The tests went well and so did the interview. The interviewer was very pleasant and easy to talk to, and I frankly thought I had done quite well since the questions were the usual motivational and CV-based ones. While the other candidates finished their interviews in about 40 minutes, mine went on for little more than an hour, and I thought this was a positive sign. After about two weeks, I had a call from RBS saying I was not going to be invited to the next round. When I asked for feedback on which aspect I had underperformed, the caller said they would not be able to divulge that. I thought this very unhelpful. I then had to go through considerable trouble to get back my travel and accommodation costs. I had to call in to RBS repeatedly for about two months and after some strong remarks, I was finally paid my money.
Interview Questions
The interview however was quite normal, with no blind-siding on the questions front. Questions consisted of why RBS, why the particular role, 3 facts about RBS and the like. Competency questions included examples of teamwork and leadership, negotiation and persuasion.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in London, England (United Kingdom) (took a day)
The assessment centre took place in one RBS office within London. It was actually a 4-step interviewing process. The first step was a one on one interview which was basically a competency-based interview on your past achievements and your motivations for joining RBS.
The second step was a presentation that I had to put together after reading a set of documents about the current economic crisis in Asia - it was then supposed to end with a small interview but it didn't...
The third step was a regular numerical test for which we could use a calculator.
It then ended with a group work - I was with 5 other applicants and each of us had to promote a sports event. The whole group had to decide eventually to pick up 2 projects out of the six as the most outstanding ones. We were wached over by HR people and business people.
