Interviewed May 2010 (took 1 week)
Received an e-mail from their HR to set up a phone interview.
Phone interview was quick, and she told me alot about their expectations from the successful candidate.
After phone interview, was asked to come meet HR 1:1, and if successful, come back to meet hiring manager and other executive.
The people in the office were all well dressed and young.

Interviewed Dec 2009 (took 3 weeks)
Lots of traditional questions that, with any interview experience, most people know how to strategically answer. Lots of behavioral questions because the position is situated in a team-oriented environment.
Straightforward time-line in terms of making offer decisions.

Interviewed Mar 2008 in San Francisco, CA (took 2 weeks)
Saks is a hard store to get hired for. They completely ignore most applications from walk-ins. If you're looking to work in the San Francisco store, you'll do good to find someone to refer you. Everyone that was ever referred, in the 2 years that I was there, was hired; no matter how stupid they were.
I got a referral from one of the managers. He called the recruiter directly and told her he was sending someone over. When I got to HR, she was very friendly, but her assistant tried her best not to schedule me for a formal interview. Thank god for that referral. Otherwise I would have been ignored just like everyone else. You'll definitely encounter an air of elitism.
Since I was referred, I got the impression that the whole interview process was really just a formality. After interviewing with the recruiter, I had to wait a few weeks to speak with the manager of the department I was going after because she was out sick. When I finally got to talk to her, she was very courteous and professional, but she was talking as though I already had the job, so it really just felt like an introduction.
I'd interviewed during the training period for that month, so I had to wait for the following session. The training and acclimation period lasted a week and was very helpful and thorough. After that, it was to the sales floor.
Negotiation Details
All associates are on commission vs draw. The higher your hourly, the more you have to sell in order to make commission. I was offered either $12 or $15 per hour. The system can be really confusing, so make sure you get them to explain it thoroughly.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview.

Interviewed Mar 2008 in New York, NY (took 3 weeks)
Started with a slight phone interview. Then went in for one interview with a manager. That led to another interview with a manager in Human Resources. Another phone interview a while later. Then had another interview with someone in human resources yet again. The whole process took about 3 weeks. One interview a week. I guess they're really busy.

Interviewed Oct 2008 in New York, NY (took 5 days)
Very disorganized process; interviewer who was my direct contact had no idea what position I was interviewing for, and then asked an illegal interview question.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
The job description on the site sounded like the position involved development of market plans and store events. I prepared for this on the interview as such. When the phone interviewer called, she told me that the position was a "public relations" position and it seems like they were looking for an individual with public speaking or even "on air" experience, and not as much of a marketing manager. I wish the job posting would have matched better to their actual needs so I could have prepared my relevant experience better. Interviewer on phone was 10 minutes late with phone call and told me that I only had 20 minutes to interview, because of next appointment. I felt rushed as a result in my answers during the interview, because of the limited time.
