Interviewed Dec 2009 in San Jose, CA (took 2 days)
Very rigorous interview process, on a par with Google...but the make decisions faster.
Recruiter very personable. Interviewers friendly. Admin assistant barely uttered a word, just showed me to a room and gave me a pretty challenging paper-and-pencil skills test. Spoke with several current employees, ate in the company cafeteria. One person described the salary and benefits, which were outstanding.
Returned for a second round, where the director had several programming tests for me, including one I answered by email that nite. All in all, they are working to make sure they hire only top-flight people.
Reason for Declining
Chose to work at a pre-IPO company instead.
Other Details
I got the interview through an Employee Referral and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Skills Test.

Interviewed Dec 2008 (took 5+ weeks)
The initial interview was the typical HR screening interview. This was conducted via telephone and lasted less than an hour. After passing the HR gatekeeper I was scheduled to interview with a group panel that included the hiring VP, HR, and Korean Dispatchers. After successfully passing that interview I then was schedule to meet with the VP of sales in one on one interview. This was followed by a final interview with the Korean President of the division. Within one week I received an offer from the company. Don't underestimate the power and influence in the decision that the Korean dispatcher have. They will tell you that they don't.

Interviewed Dec 2009 (took a day)
Phone interview w/HR was very general as it usually is with HR. However, I was concerned that every concern I had read about regarding the company was met w/the pc response. e.g. "I have heard that 1 of the challenges with working at Samsung is...." with the response something to the effect of "Oh no, we are not like that" without much clarity.
In person interview was okay. Your run of the mill questions about why you want to work there, former job responsibilities, accomplished projects, graduate school experience, what you have heard about Samsung and how it compares to your current experience.
I appreciate that they took the time to be transparent about the position, company, and concerns.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Ridgefield Park, NJ (took 4 months)
Exceptionally drawn out process. Having interviewed for several positions at Samsung, I found the company tends to be indecisive and generally slow. Multiple teams waxed about how desperately they needed to hire someone to help with the workload, but then they would take weeks or sometimes over a month between interview steps.
My interviews focused on explaining my work experience and my reasons for seeing this particular job at this particular company. Interviewers were easy going and most kept their reactions close to their chest.

Interviewed Dec 2008 in Camden, NJ (took 6+ weeks)
It was a multi-tier process with two discussions with recruiters before speaking with someone at the parent company. No contact details were shared about following up after each of the discussions. The only way you knew if you made it to the next level was if you received a call.

Definitely looking for people with ASIC back ground; preferably from gate netlist to GDSII. Also need to be familiar with ASIC tools and flows; as well as schedule. Most people there seem to be from start-ups and small companies. So culture is very different from larger corporations.
