Interviewed Jan 2009 in Huntsville, AL (took a day)
Typical EE interview, asking about amount of experience with detail aspects of the job opening as well as unfamiliar details in the resume of general interest to the interviewers.
Not so typical, but common, lack of "test" (solve this problem...) questions.
Reasonable amount of specific details about near-term work projects if I take the job.

Negotiation Details
No negotiation. "We'll pay you less for now because, even though you have all the qualifications and experience in the needed subject matter, you don't have the right military products background." It took about 7 months to demonstrate I was on top of it all anyway; sadly, the salary is still the same low-ball because they haven't had raises in 5 years...

Interviewed Apr 2009 in San Jose, CA (took a day)
Not very orgranized interviewers. The culture seemed stuffed but it was expected; typical of a CM culture. Questions asked were very simple, not much substance. The hiring manager seemed unsure and atually relied on one if his Engineers to make the final decision for him. One Engineer actually spent time talking about other people instead of focusing on the interviewee.

Interviewed Mar 2010 (took 3 months)
I interviewed for a sales position at Sanmina. With the benefit of hindsight, I have to say they were a somewhat misleading organization. Pretty much straightforward HR-wise - phone interviews, 1 on 1 interviews, etc. As part of my own due diligence I discovered a lot of unpleasant surprises with the position, and decided I would decline going forward with the interview process. I think this is common for companies whose business model is centered around pure contract manufacturing. There really isn't a "moat" or competitive advantage around the business, so it wins accounts almost all the time on price alone. Thus, what incentive is there to hire the brightest and the best? None, really, as being the cheapest is all that really counts. Keep that in mind when interviewing with organizations like this. Also, be sure to do your own due diligence prior to accepting a job with a contract manufacturer, as they operate on razor-thin margins and thus have strong incentives to cut costs everywhere they can.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
Sent my resume to HR. Second day, the HR person send email to ask salary requirement. The same day, the hiring manager called me and the phone went very well. Setup on-site interview with HR for the second business day. Interviewed with 5 persons and good feelings.
The hiring manager did not ask details about the technology. I think he assumed that my background (from my resume) was very strong. He showed me a lot of thing around the work place. No hard questions. He told me that I was the first interviewee and should be the best.
However, three weeks passed. No offer yet. I think they find another candidate more reasonable. I should be over qualified for this position. The salary I had is much higher what they can offer. I do not believe they think I can stay with them for a long time.
By the way, this is a small branch of Sanmina. It does not look like they have very high educational level person in the building. I have Ph.D. degree and they may not use to me.
