    Application

I applied through a staffing agency – interviewed at Sargento (Plymouth, WI) in November 2014.

    Interview

Began with me sending resume to blind post to the screening agency - Princeton One. This was followed by a phone conversation with the Sargento HR then SVP of Marketing. Later interview at their offices with about 6-8 team members. Throughout the process everyone was extremely professional and accommodating. They never felt you feel uncomfortable in any way.

    Interview Questions

    • Very straight forward questions trying to get a handle on your understanding of the discipline and your ability to be successful in the role. Questions focused on strengths, weaknesses, etc but seemed to want to understand if you could fit in their culture. There were not any sort of cute or uncomfortable questions. I give Kudos to all involved in this process.   Answer Question

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 daysinterviewed at Sargento (Plymouth, WI) in September 2014.

    Interview

This place isn't for everyone. Pros - they make a quality product - somewhat of a "family" atmosphere - which is also the con - high lack of diversity in the organization - this could be a big downer if you don't fit their mold. Some really odd tiers of what the deem important for a business - but it is family owned - so I guess they can get away with that. They haven't really brought their marketing into the 21st Century - but plan on playing catch up in the near future. Out in the middle of nowhere, nearest lunch spot was 7 miles from their HQ - so plan on packing a lunch. You may like the rural life - or you could drive an hour to the nearest city. Some nice folksy people and some others that were fairly aloof.

    Interview

I was introduced to Sargento through a recruiter that helped me with every phase of the intererview process. I went through 2 telephone interviews and 2 face to face interviews. Sargento was very hospitable and welcoming. Very nice people and everyone I encountered seemed happy to be there and were also pleasant to me.

    Interview Questions

    • Experience with a commodity. The block (cheese) market is a commodity that is a big part of how they manage their business. Example: Meat (Oscar Mayer for instance), Dairy (milk, butter, cheese), Candy (chocolate, sugar), Cereal (grains).   Answer Question
    • Alt Channel experience (preferable 2 years)…understands Sam’s Club, Costco, what their strategies are…It’s a different way to go to market versus traditional retail. It’s very customer centric, a lot of requests from customers, very collaborative. A different animal. Would like to see Costco or Sam’s on their resume.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

They put an offer on the table the included some perks to help bridge the gap between the difference in base salary. They didn't pressure me to accept immediately but did give me a deadline
