Interviewed Mar 2012 in Dallas, TX (took 2 weeks)
First, I was given a phone interview in which the screener asked what I knew about the company's philosophy and market. I said it was a low-income market and the company focused on promoting their own private brand which would help trigger higher gross profit than the average grocer. I also stated that the company focuses on a smaller, more specific inventory, so as not to have a million things to confuse or frustrate customers. The company wants customers to be able to come in, purchase their necessities, and get out without long lines or aisles. I was sent to the "Training Store" in the DFW area which was run by a female manager. She basically told me that 80% of your job will be stocking and merchandising the store. They need to know that the people they hire can physically handle the labor involved, as well as, have retail experience to learn the operational side of the business. I got a call a few days later saying I would have a 1:1 interview with the District Manager. It was a guy, and he seemed nice and the interview went well...or so I thought. He asked me more operations side questions about my current company's sales:payroll percentage, MTM sales, GP%, my availability, my reason for wanting to leave my current company, and my salary requirements. It isn't a salary position. It is an amount you request (let's say $45k) which will be broken down into an hourly rate, and you will be guaranteed 40 hours. You typically will be closing 3-4 days a week leaving the store somewhere between 10:30 to 11:30 depending on how busy or short-handed you are. Anyway, I left thinking I did well, but I got a phone call from the corporate office letting me know they chose someone else. So, the plus side is that you will hear something from the corporate office either way via a phone call, if you make it this far. The negative is that the phone call might not be a happy one. Hope this helps

Interviewed Jan 2010 (took a day)
The application was done via the company website, then being contacted by phone. A few days later the one-on-one interview was held, performed by the assistant manager and a brief talk with the manager. A couple days after, having been accepted, a two hour session was held to fill out necessary paperwork that was sent to the main office. The one-on-one interview itself felt somewhat informal and had little stress.
(Since that time the process has changed to the applicant being interviewed by the manager (or assistant manager) with the district manager present.)

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Lexington, KY (took 3 days)
The initial communication occurred at our college career fair. I met the representative and decided to find out more about the program. I was scheduled a one-on-one interview for the next day on the spot. The one-on-one interview was about 30-45 minutes and consisted of general questions - why I wanted the job, why i would be a good fit, what I knew about the company, how I fit into the company culture, etc. I was then called and scheduled for a very short phone interview which was similar questions by a differenct person. Finally I was offered an interview at their corporate office. They flew me from Lexington to St. Louis where I had about a half of a day of interviews with several different people in everything from one-on-one to group settings. The process felt extremely drawn out. They continually stated how the felt their company was viewed by customers, however, I felt it was viewed in a very dfferent way. I wasn't sure if they were just trying to make us believe it or if they actually believed it themselves.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Columbus, OH (took a day)
I applied roughly a month before they called to set up an interview. When I walked in the very friendly cashier took me to their back room, which was a mess. When the manager finally came in she didn't introduce herself or even attempt to shake my hand. I tried to start small talk but she wasn't in to it. She started firing interview questions, never giving me eye contact and any kind of feedback. After the questions I had to take a math test (know to to calculate percents in your head), and a personality test which was all about stealing. Once I finished all she said was you can leave now so I went on my way. She called 3 days later to offer me the position, which only paid minimum wage, and told me orientation started Wednesday at 9am. I have class at that time & couldn't make it. I asked to reschedule and she said guess you don't want the job and hung up on me.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Fayetteville, NC (took 2 months)
This is the longest interview process that I have ever seen. You would think it is for a government job..
*Sent application online
Recieved an email back saying basically they are interested in me, fill out this form and email it back to us, which was basically another application but more in depth and specific
Recieved another email stating that they would like to set up a phone interview, got to this website and pick an available time
Recieved a call at the chosen time, talked to their talent aquistion person, which was basically a phone interview typical of any other interview, at the end (about 30 min) she said she was reccomending me for the next step in their interview process and to expect an email
*Recieved the email, which was basically a 90 minute timed test, and then 130 questions, the no right or wrong personality test.. 2.5 hrs total for the test
*Recieved a call from another talent acquistion person stating that they would like a face to face interview and set a date and time
*I arrived at the store for the interview about 30 minutes early and walked around the store to get a feel for it, then I met the manager at the front of the store and interviewed with him which consisted of similar interview questions that were in the phone interview, filled out another application thanked him and left. The guy stated that the next step in the process would be that they would call back the most qualified persons and interview them once more
*Recieved a call about 20 days later from the second talent acquisition person stating that they were going to persue other applicants at this time and my application would stay on file for a year.
Applied in December, heard final decision Feb 19th
