Interviewed Feb 2011 in Philadelphia, PA (took 2 weeks)
They question you on everything from your first job to your current status and future goals. A great company with an interesting business model for the field sales teams. The Sales Managers all work together to be successful. They want motivated and hungry people who aren't afraid to work 70 hours a week during the 100 days of hell in busy season.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Rochester, NY (took a day)
I applied online, received a phone call literally an hour after completion for a phone interview. I was then asked to come in for a 1:1 face interview. Company seemed legit until the spontaneous job offer was lended to me with no expierience. I accepted obviously because I was hurting for a job.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 1+ week)
The overall interview process was very efficient. I recieved an invite for a phone interview within 24 hours of submitting my resume. The phone interview is conducted by an outside company and only take about 20-30 minutes. This is followed by meeting with a manager who you will work directly with. This interview is pretty informal and stress free and can lead to a job offer on the spot. Be prepared to discuss salary if you condiser yourself a qualified candidate.

Interviewed Jan 2009 in Marysville, OH (took 1+ week)
A recruiter contacted me about the position. The job description wasn't very accurate since they were redefining the role. I was able to complete a phone interview with the manager the day after i stated i would be willing to interview with the company. The interview was relaxed and informative on both ends. The interviewer did not choose canned questions and instead dug into the details of my resume and current position. I heard back the next day that they wanted to set up on onsite interview. i already had plans that was going to take me out of town for a week and they were accommidating and scheduled the onsite interview for the following week. The interview was a panel interview with several managers from the various departments and 2 HR reps. I got a plant tour and a job offer the next day.

I found that I didn't have to negotiate. I was given a range upfront, in which i would not have accepted the lower end, but the offer came in at the max rate. I would have felt comfortable nego. for it, if required.

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Cleveland, OH (took 1+ week)
Phone interview went well, mostly simple background questions. Second interview with Dist. Mgr and the person who previously held the open position (he was recently promoted). I thought the interview went very well, more in depth questions about work history, future plans, some situational questions but nothing drastic or uncomfortable. I thought it all went well but a "thanks, but no thanks"e-mail a few days later crushed my hopes. Too bad. Seemed like a nice place to work. Interviewers were very nice and professional without being stuffy. Company has good reputation for career advancement. I think they're after young employees who want to start climbing that corp ladder.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Columbus, OH (took 2 weeks)
Had initial 1 on 1 interview on campus that went well, fairly basic questions of Why do you want to work for Scotts? Where do you see yourself in ten years? and some behaviorals. Got selected for the second round of interviews which was at Scotts campus in Marysville. VERY nice place and all the people we're smiling which was nice. Had 2 panel discussions with people in the function I was applying for which went well and had a final meet and greet at a Columbus Blue Jackets game in their luxury box which was a nice touch and good way to get to know the people.
In the end I didn't get the offer as only one spot was available but I would have no problems applying or working for Scotts in the future if the situation arose.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Marysville, OH (took a day)
This was an MBA-level internship, so as far as that goes it was average. Very few case questions. Most questions were behavioral such as questions about leadership, initiative, and selling ideas to management. I was invited to a second round interview with 2 people at the same time. I was asked some questions about where I saw myself in 15 years, the company structure of previous employers, and other questions meant to "throw me off". They threw me off enough to not get an offer.

Interviewed Feb 2009 (took 2 weeks)
Applied online, got invited to take a online questionnaire, at the end was further invited to a phone interview where you could choose a date/time to your liking (they call right on time btw).
Scotts sends out continous updates letting you know where you are in the interview process or if your still being considered as well as surveys to provide feedback on the interview process.
Phone interview was successful and met with Sales Manager for a in person interview with a store visit to demonstrate your merchandising sales experience. Got offered the job a week later.
Sales managers are very thorough in describing the job and expectations, despite the fact that they are selling fertilizer and grass seed, there is an entrepreneurial aspect in their culture and the values they believe in.
