I was contacted by the Human resources department of the Scotts-Miracle Grow company after I submitted an appliction online. Had a few formal questions to ask then set me up for a phone interview with an HR representative.
The HR person asked me some formal questions once again, and then notified me that I would have an in-person interview set up with the Sales Manager for this region. Interview with the sales manager, and got the job.

Not much negotiation. Not a lot of flexibility on amount of pay for this job.

I applied online and after answering the questions was informed that I was qualified and was prompted to choose a date and time for a phone interview. I was contacted, 20 minutes late, and the interviewer went over the details of the job and asked if after hearing them was I still interested. After replying that I was, the interview began.
Questions went along the line of what was your experence in retail and how dis you resolve a problem with a unhappy customer.

The interview was with 2 of their HR professionals. Scotts brought a bunch of HR people to conduct interviews and interviewed a ton of people in one day. It almost seemed like they just interviewed anyone and sifted through them in the interviews (not sure if this is a good or bad method; you decide). The interview was fairly standard with behavioral questions. Nothing too tricky, but I had the feeling they were looking for someone as energetic as they were.

After talking with representatives at a University Career fair, I received and invitation to interview. The process was nothing out of the ordinary and consisted of a couple general interview questions ( i.e. tell me about your self) and behaviorally based questions. There were two representatives from the finance office in the room and they alternated questions. The environment was relatively warm and welcoming.
Although I felt I presented myself well, I was called back for the second round of interviews.

Interview process was great, spoke on phone and they were very professional and kind. Took a little bit to get things organized but was eventually I was flown onsite and spoke with several people who were friendly and honest. To be clear I am very bummed I didn't have the experience level they were looking for because they people seemed SOOO awesome! Valued employee development and growth. Headquartered in the middle of nowheresville Ohio and it was just beautiful and not too far from Columbus. Awesome campus that embodied their products. HR was 1 day late in getting back to me about my the status of my interview but was very apologetic. She let me down very easy and when I asked for interviewing feedback she gave all positives except that I had never been a brand manager before and they really wanted someone to hit the ground running. The entire experience was very professional and the company and people seemed very friendly, open, honest, and FUN! Truly bummed I didn’t get an offer!
To be honest I interviewed in 2007 not 2008 but I recently became a member of glassdoor and I was really excited to share my interviewing experience with this company because it was just so great-- even though i didn't get an offer.
General behavioral interview questions, and they were more than willing to explain what they were looking fo in terms of answers.

I had applied online and the same day i had already had an interview scheduled. HR person was very nice phone interview took only 20min. Overall was a good experience. Interviewed on a sunday got a call on monday saying they had already filled the position.
