Interviewed Dec 2011 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 3 months)
was reached through linked in (nobody wants to work there so they have to hire like this). the person was half-knowledgeable about the company and asked poor questions. There were 3 communication efforts to book an interview and finally, it was happening at 7 am in the morning. Met with the VP and AVP or something, was quite unimpressed - in fact, the VP was chewing gum during the interview. it took 2 months for them to decide. when they issued an offer, i told them that i wanted to run it by my lawyer and they laughed in a derogatory manner. that did it. i rejected the offer and ended up in a much better place.

Reason for Declining
Too many people I know told me about horrible experiences at this company. New CEO is unable to revive it. Future prospects look bleak.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 4 days)
I submitted my resume into the CMA careers website and received a call from Sears HR. I was invited to an interview with the hiring manager. Midway through the interview, he decided to bring in his boss to also interview me. After 30 minutes with his manager, I left. Full interview was an hour.
I heard from them on the Tuesday (interview took place the Thursday before).

Negotiation Details
I was able to negotiate 3 weeks vacation. The advice is that at Sears, they are so desperate to get people to work for them because of their poor results, you have more negotiation power. Not only should get 3 weeks, push for a signing bonus. I didn't get one, but I've heard of many who were able to obtain one.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took a day)
Had already interviewed with company on campus, was in touch with them later when I got called for this. Interviews were very easy compared to other company interviews I had been for, where they drill you on behavioral (star format), etc. Just general resume questions and I was done.
Advice - research and negotiate your base salary hard, as I realized later that I was underpaid big time compared to my colleagues and industry

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Toronto, ON (Canada) (took 3 weeks)
HR is very detailed in prepping you for the interview and responding to emails (when they're genuinely interested). However, after two interviews with senior management, numerous follow up, they communication came to an abrupt halt. I found the process to be disrespectful and rude. I had sent an email inquiring about a decision (regardless of the outcome) only to be ignored. Blessing in disguise? If this is how they treat potential employees, it could be a sneak peek into how poorly they treat their existing staff.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 2 weeks)
HR staffing specialist seems extremely busy after he requested phone interview by email then no response. This happened twice in a row in two weeks time that made me think that there were reasons behind this. At the face-to-face interview with the hiring manager, it was clear that the roles and responsibilities were not clearly defined and understood, and the expectations of this role was inconsistent and confused during the one hour conversation. I put a big question mark for the leadership quality at least for that department.
