Interviewed Nov 2010 in Jacksonville, FL (took 2 months)
The interview actually took longer than anticipated but whatever. I had applied for Sears back in September, I had one interview with the HR manager and one with the Cashier Lead, he claimed he love my application and he would pass it on to the store manager so he could interview me. So I waited and waited and waited and no call back! I didn't receive a call back until Novemeber, but lucky me I didn't have a job yet so I was grateful and took what was offered. The interview was simple and it consisted of questions about my life, experience, overcoming a difficult situation etc etc. He offered me min. wage plus 2 dollar commission from the credit apps.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Hammond, LA (took 1 week)
I got to the interview right on time and waited in the HR office for about 15 minutes. When the manager finally got to me he asked me 5 essay questions. Afterwards, he explained that that was the easy part and he'll send that part of my application to the cashier department, and that, should they need a cashier, they will call me back and do an even longer interview.

Interviewed Mar 2011 (took 2 weeks)
I applied online via Snagajob after seeing that cashiers were needed. As most people, I had the opportunity to set up my own interview date & time. The first interview was nerve-racking, because I didn't know what to expect. There was a guy in front of me, & a girl that got hired on the spot. I immediately assumed that they filled the positions so I was a little worried...but otherwise, I did my best. The woman asked me very basic questions dealing with availability & questions relating to past work experiences & how I handled some situations. She said everything looked good & that I would more than likely be called because they just got rid of a lot of the cashiers formerly employed (...oh...okay?). So I left, a week passes & I got no call. I decided to call them to see about my application, & the woman that picked up the phone scheduled me for a second interview (always good to call if you don't get a call yourself!). So I went...sat there for maybe 30 minutes, because my interview wasn't in the system. :/ So I'm like okay...great. Either I'm being duped or someone's not doing their job right. I get through the second interview which took about another 30 minutes...much tougher, with questions similar to the last time, but questions you really have to think through to answer. She offered me the job on the spot, & I accepted. I'm part-time seasonal at minimum wage, which isn't bad--considering that I used to work in a library for minimum wage...& basically sat on my butt being bored the whole time. I'm hoping this will be more "exciting." Anyhoos, to sum up what I think of the employees in my local Sears' HR office...very disorganized. Not only did they not have my interview scheduled in the computer, but I was given the wrong form to take with me to get drug tested...a form they were actually supposed to keep. Meh. It seems very fast-paced, which I don't mind...a nice change from my last job. My drug test & background check cleared in less than a day, so I start orientation next week.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Augusta, ME (took a day)
I applied online and immediately scheduled an interview. I called the store to confirm the date and time, and I was told they were correct. The day before my interview I received an email changing the time of the interview. When I arrived at the HR department of Sears 15 minutes early, I was asked my name and the Interviewer came in. He reviewed my resume for about 20 seconds, then we sat down in the office. He seemed very nervous which made me nervous! He was young, and I could tell he hadn't done a lot of interviews. There were a lot of awkward silences as he tried to find questions to ask me. One question he put a lot of emphasis on was if I would be able to solicit credit cards, and that people who either aren't willing or just aren't good at it don't last long. Also, the pay for the position is $7.50 an hour...who can live on that?! The interview seemingly went well, and at the end I caught him off guard by asking if he had any concerns about my ability to fit in with the team and perform the essential duties. The only concern he said he had was that I had never solicited credit cards before, and some people try but can't do it. He told me that he would like to put me in for another interview and that his boss would be in the next morning, and he would talk to her then. He said it went well and I sounded great for the position, but that's what they all say!

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Pleasanton, CA (took 1 week)
Very simple, applied to their website then got an from their HR representative a couple days later to come in for an interview the next day. I was worried because they moved my interview time forwards; but it seemed to be perfect since it was right after the HR lady had lunch. Honestly, it seemed like they would hire anyone because the lady was very nice and friendly but unprofessional. She explained a lot about the company and asked basic questions, she pretty much let me know she really wanted to hire me but I still had to go through the general manager. So I went home, then got a call the next day to come in for an interview for the general manager.
Also a nice lady, but she mentioned several times about the metrics and really putting an emphasis on selling items more than customer relations. Pretty much the same interview process, I got hired on the spot.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in San Bruno, CA (took a day)
Did the application online and was told to select a time and date for an upcoming interview. it was originally scheduled for 1pm, but the day b4 i was called and told to come in at 3 since the manager for the cashiers who would be conducting the interview would not be in until 3pm. When i got there i waited about 10 minutes and we interview. I was asked about my availability, and simple question that anyone could answer if you dont rush. even if you dont know what to say you could very easily b.s. the answers into something they want to hear.
after that interview i was told to wait so she could go find another manager to interview me because she wanted to pass me through to the next stage. 10 minutes or so later i was interviewed by another manager who asked me similar questions just in a different format.
afterwards they asked me if i was interested in the position and if $8.00 was okay with me (california minimum wage). I was told i was hired as long as i passed a background check and drug test.
it was very easy and simple.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Tallahassee, FL (took a day)
I met with one manager and spoke with him for about 15 minutes, and then to my surprise, I had to meet with another manager for another 10 minutes. The first manager was very nice and he had already offered me the job, but I assume the rule is a two person interview process. They both asked me questions that were very typical of the interview process. Not hard if you have practiced a bit.

He basically told me what I would make and that he was giving me more than usual due to my experience. I wasn't going to argue with that.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Bloomington, IN (took 3 days)
On Saturday, I applied online for Sears to be a Cashier. After I was done applying, it told me online to set up a day for an interview and what time. I set my interview up for Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. However, to better prepare myself for an interview, I researched questions online that they would ask. I stumbled along GlassDoor & read the reviews. What happened to others happened to me! I called to make sure my interview was set up. They said the Manager wasn't even at work that day & to reschedule an interview for the following day... In my opinion, Sears is a scam & I do NOT suggest trying to get a job there. It's a giant waste of time.
