Interviewed Apr 2011 in Lake Zurich, IL (took a day)
Well, to work at Sears Hardware in Lake Zurich, you really only need one thing. You need to know someone that works there. There are a few times where people who don't know anybody at Sears Hardware will still get hired, but for the most part, it's friends that get hired. Now, the interview (if you get that far) is super easy. They just tell you what you're going to do. There really are no questions asked. Super easy and laid back interview. Wear something nice, but there's no need to dress up.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Austin, TX (took 2 weeks)
I applied for a job at Sears online, the next week received a phone call from their HR to come in for a 1 on 1 interview. I came in and the interview lasted for about 30 minutes. It was somewhat formal and scripted. The HR rep seemed to be irritated by something but I don't think it had to do with the interview.
Questions varied from what position did I want to what my specialties were since this was my first job I've applied for.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in New York, NY (took 4+ weeks)
well let me just state that the professionalism from start to finish was awful. first interviewed for assistant manager and turned it down due to salary.(interview time/date changed two times) let them know if a store manager position opened id be interested. about a month later i was called back for a store manager interview. 930pm night before interview time and location changed again. was informed last candidate failed drug test and thats why i was being interviewed. ok.....interview was again with the same DM. told me i would be thrown into a disaster store with little to no training and expect to work 60-70 hours for the first 6 months. then did a skill test/project in the store. 7 days later after run around i spoke to regional director who just liked to hear himself speak and i couldnt even get a word in. 7 days later spoke to the VP of sears hardware. much more stiff but very polite. was told by DM, RD, VP that they liked me and was going to speak to DM about offer. process was a complete pain in the ass and was at this point completely turned off to the whole thing. so a week went by and i heard nothing(at this point with any other interview i would do a follow up call). after rescheduling everything i wasnt about to go out of my way to find out what was going on. NEVER even got a call to say thanks for interviewing but we decided to go with someone else blah blah blah...one month later nailed another job at a highter rate/bonus etc. dont waster your time with sears...dont even have the respect enough to tell you your NOT hired.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in West Babylon, NY (took a day)
Applied in person. After handing my application, I was called in to the office for a "on the spot" interview. Completely unaware that I was about to be interviewed. I was dressed with black pants and a dress top. Manager asked a few questions about experience and a few questions on travel and availability. Overall easy interview.
