After you apply, you can schedule an interview- which is a good thing about Sears, they will always give you that interview chance. You go in and talk to the HR manager, and She does the basic interview. If she likes you, she'll pass you over to the Store Manager and Maybe your would-be Direct manager. if all goes well, they'll hire you on spot, as I was.
Reason for Declining
The pay was horrible. $6.00/hr for something I used to get paid double to do-- It's below minimum wage, but they make up for it via commissions. They have pretty intimidating quotas and your job is dependent on you meeting them. They will tell you they don't have quotas, but honestly, they're a sales company. If they didn't, they'd be going out of business.

I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview and a Background Check.

Learn the company that you are looking to work for, recap all your experiences and the training that you have done. Know the goals that have set for yourself short term and long term. always know 3 things to describe yourself as well as 3 things that your employer would describe you. have had phone interviews first leading into 2-3 face to face interviews. Perception is everything always put your best foot forward.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took a day)
had to listen to calls for about 30 minutes or so. I think they actually forgot to come get me but after working there it wouldn't surprise me at all. Then I interviewed with two managers and had to do some role playing. Interview was easy for me. No unusual questions and nothing unexpected.
Negotiation Details
no negotiation AT ALL!! I was told I would be able to discuss pay when I selected my schedule but that was a lie.

Interviewed Feb 2010 (took 6 months)
Initial interviews are quite extensive; phone interviews, one on one interviews, panel interviews; several tests; there are interviews that are occur outside the company for screenings on knowledge, skills and abilities. The whole process can take five to six months. Overall great experience and challenges along the way. There is room to negoitiate however, there are limits and they are defined along the process and settled during the offer stage. HR recruiters are awesome and the HR Reps and Directors are great people to work with throughout your tenure.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
The role I was originally approached about was withdrawn days before the interview and the interview was changed to exploratory. I met with half a dozen people during the day all of whom were professional and clearly wanted to succeed in their areas but did not have any idea why they were talking to me. The overall process was disorganized.
My observation is the marketing areas are going through a lot of change. Shifting responsibilities and personnel make it a challenging team to join, though perhaps a good place to be if you are looking for an entrepreneurial role in a large organization. Constant fire drills and changes, though not unexpected anywhere these days, appear to be disrupting the strategic vision and creating a short term view.
