Store Manager at Sears

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Macomb, IL May 2011 – Reviewed Mar 1, 2013

Interview Details – I went through the interview process with SEARS Holdings Corporation and the process was pretty typical of a large corporation. The interveiw process for franchised or dealer stores is quite different. This can vary by employer. This current owner would probably have a traditional small store mentality for the interview process. I would say that as long as someone is hard working and presentable they should be able to pass the interview process.

Interview Question – As always the most difficult question is "What is your greatest flaw". People try to turn the flaw into an asset, which typically consists of something like "I work too hard" or some other BS answer. As a manager I would prefer a realistic flaw and a plan to overcome that flaw included in the answer so that I know the person is being real with me and has a plan to challenge themselves.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I was not readily able to negotiate at the time, as SEARS had a structured pay rate. I was offered a little less at first but because I was familiar with the company and it's operations I was able to show them that I knew what I was talking about and got the 'correct' hourly pay.

Sales Associate at Sears

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Flagstaff, AZ – Reviewed Mar 1, 2013

Interview Details – The interview was pretty laid back. We talked more about our lives and just chatter than an interview. Really basic questions. They are really just looking to see if you are a people person and can hold a conversation. Don't stress about interviews here, and least not for sales associates.

Interview Question – If your car broke down how would you get to work.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No negotiation, Sears will not negotiate

Cashier at Sears

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Burlington, WA Oct 2009 – Reviewed Feb 28, 2013

Interview Details – I filled out an online application then received an email soon after asking me to take the online assessment. At the end of the assessment I was asked to select a date/time for an in-person interview at the store. I had 2 in-person interviews, first with a supervisor then with the store manager.

Interview Question – Why do you want to work for Sears? "I need a job" just doesn't sound right.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I had just moved to the state and their minimum wage was a dollar and 5 cents more than I was making at my previous job so I didn't bother to negotiate. I was satisfied.
