Interviewed May 2011 (took a day)
I was asked general interview questions, nothing out of the ordinary. "What are your interests?" Make sure you say something along the lines of how you are creative. They are looking for people who can set up appealing backgrounds and props for the picture as well as put together photo collages.
Another question they will ask about is your experience with photography. Even if you don't have any professional experience (like me) talk about how it's a hobby of yours.
Going into the interview with enthusiasm is a big plus. You are going to be working with children the majority of the time so they want to see that you can make the picture experience fun for them.

Interviewed Apr 2012 in Salinas, CA (took 3 days)
Very relaxed interview. I was called in for an interview two days after I applied online - the downside was that it was scheduled for that day, forty-five minutes from the call. I went, was late because it was out of town (should have been the first sign). Questions involved photography basics, how much you like children, how far you go to connect with customer, etc etc.
Sales-oriented job. And inadequate training. Sorry.

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Green Bay, WI (took a day)
I received a call the day after applying online. After a few questions about the job I found that this is a 90% Sales job and only 10% actual photography. She claimed she was very impressed with my back ground (I do freelance photography in my spare time while a part-time student), however after learning this is mostly a sales position, I lost interest. Pay is strictly minimum with commission and pushy sales/telemarketing is required with meeting monthly goals. After talking a bit more about my personality, she asked me to come in for a formal interview but I declined.
In my opinion (and many others as customers) they should keep sales associates and photographers separate.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
Misleading position, I am not looking to do mostly sales and be forced to telemarket (one of the most hated marketing tactics by customers in the world).
Other Details
I Applied Online and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, an IQ/Intelligence Test, a Skills Test, a Personality Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Jun 2010 (took a day)
I interviewed with Sears Portrait Studio in June of 2010. The interview consisted of being asked questions about my former work experience, experience with cameras, sales and customer service. The interview mostly consisted of being told about the job and stressing the fact that it is very much a sales job.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining
There was too much emphasis on selling products without commission.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took 3 days)
I applied online and 3 days later I was asked to come in for an interview that afternoon. The manager took me into the portrait studio and asked me a few standard questions about my customer service and sales background. I was asked to "sell" her a random item out of the studio, asked how I would deal with an angry customer, and asked how I would make a child smile for a photo. Then, I was taken back in the front to filled out my paper work and given my training schedule.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took a day)
I filled out the application online. I was called in to interview one-on-one with the studio manager. She asked about previous customer service experiences. She also asked why I chose to apply at Sears, and what my experience working with children is. I was hired on the spot, and have to go back to give her my information for the background check.

Interviewed Sep 2010 (took a day)
The interview took place with the studio manager. She asked the basic interview questions and then went over the basics of the job. You are hired for you sales, not photography. If you have a photography background they may consider that a bonus, but they have their own training, so it isn't that important.

I applied onling at searsportrait.com for a sales associate/photographer position. I got a phone call the next day and was asked to come in for an interview the following day. I got a return phone call the day after the interview for me to come in and start the hiring process. I was completely happy with the hiring process. Questions were simple! Do you have sales experience, photography experience, how do you deal with customer complaints, How do you handle stressful situations, Whats your availability like?
