Interviewed Dec 2011 (took 3 days)
Had to wait. The person was bitter, she didn't seem like she liked her job. The HR office seemed empty. She basically wrote down everything I said which distracted me. And when I tried to have eye contact with her, she was too busy writing down my answers. So I noticed she spelled "theory" incorrectly...then at the end, she said "Well, I can't hire you. You spent too much time staring down at the table. That will confuse customers. You can be a cashier, not a sales associate." Most useless interview I ever had, didn't learn anything.

Interviewed Jun 2011 (took a day)
I applied online for the job and was told to pick an interview time. I went to the interview and had to wait about 20 minutes before anybody even let me into the office. Once i got into the office I interviewed with the HR person. She was friendly but seemed kind of irritated (later I learned that was just her personality). She asked all the basic questions and wrote down my answers. I think it will help if you tell about a lot of experiences where you helped other people. They like that. After that interview the softline sales manager interviewed me. She was very nice. She asked some of the sale questions the HR lady did and some of the same ones that were in the actual application. Just be nice and smile a lot. Ask some questions about whatever position you are trying to get. They didn't actually know what position they wanted me to work. So I ended up training in the shoe department, the misses cash register, and home fashions. I was told to pick which one I liked better. I was hired the same day as the interview. Orientation was a couple days later and I then started training a day after that.

Very unorganized. Interviewer was late. Way too many people in and out of office very distracting....in fact I felt like an unwanted addition to a very busy day. Interview felt like an afterthought.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Baytown, TX (took a day)
I applied online from the Sears website. After finishing the application I was directed to take 2 tests. The test were scenarios you might come across in a retail store. Upon completing the tests I was able to schedule an interview time and date on the computer, which I really liked. The interview was with the HR manager. She asked questions like: describe a time when you had to overcome an obstacle, what is your greatest weakness, what are your strengths. A few scenario questions. I suggest to really do research and think about answers to these type of questions. I went in unprepared because it was my first interview in about 6 years. I previously worked for Sears so I was thinking the process would be easier. I learned to always research the company and think of times you have been challenged, overcame obstacles, reached goals etc. They will ask these types of questions. I was not offered a job (I believe) because my schedule was not flexible enough for retail. They require weekend/night availability.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
The interview was quick and easy. I was asked some questions about how I would handle customers and how I managed stress. I got the job easily. I recognized my first problem with the company when they were hiring so many people at once. High turnover.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Mansfield, OH (took a day)
HA hiring process? There was no hiring process. I applied for Sears on Tuesday October 4, 2011 and received a call from a lady named Brenda around 7:30 p.m. She asked if I would be willing to come in for an interview on Friday at 2:30. I said most definitely.
So Friday rolls around and I went to my interview. I arrived 10min early and went directly to the HR room. Once I got there I heard someone else being interviewed so I waited patiently until they were done. Once their interview was done I popped my head in the ladies office and said
"Hi, I'm so and so here for an interview."
The lady just looked at me like I was an idiot and said "Ok???"
I just stood there and then she said "Who are you interviewing with?"
I said "Brenda"
She goes "Ohhhh, well Brenda called off sick today and I have to go on lunch now because I haven't had lunch all day and I have other people coming in at 3:00 for interviews."
I was like "Ok?"
She says "You can just have a seat I'll find someone to interview you"
I could hear her page two different people "Hey I have someone here for an interview, would you want to interview them?"
Both people answered "Nope!"
So then she came back into the room I was in and said "Someone will be with you shortly." and she just walked out to go to lunch.
I sat there for another 5 min and then I just said forget it and I walked out. No one even came into the room to interview me.
WHAT A HORRIBLE IMPRESSION AND A HORRIBLE ENVIRONMENT TO WORK FOR! COMPLETE JOKE!!!

I was told to go to the wrong store for the interview. I was never told how much the pay was until 1 week after I started. They also never disclosed how incompetent and inept the company was.

Interviewed May 2011 in Palm Springs, CA (took a day)
I arrived early and feeling confident. Met with the interviewer and went to her office. Even though I stated on my online application I can only work until 6pm, due to lack of transportation (where I live, the only bus that's in my city stops running at 7:30pm), I was required to work until the mall closed, which was 9pm. The interviewer knew about the bus and how it runs, but didn't try to make an exception or even give me the hours I requested. I had to decline.
