Cashier at Shoprite Supermarkets

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Parlin, NJ Sep 2008 – Reviewed Oct 26, 2012

Interview Details – I initially applied online and was then called in (but nowadays due to the economy you should call due to the sheer number of applicants) and given a short interview. I was asked about my strengths and what I wanted to do at Shoprite while we were sitting in a private room. I was offered a $7.35/hr salary at the time, for which there was no negotiation. Minimum wage was $6.35 back then. The HR manager was nice enough and I felt comfortable with him. This was the easiest interview I've ever had, with the questions being more how often I could work and would it conflict with my school schedules.

Interview Question – There weren't any difficult questions except what salary I wanted because I was new to the workforce at the time.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I was unable to negotiate because I didn't know how, and even if I had, I had no work experience to back myself up with.

Deli Clerk at Shoprite Supermarkets

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Somers Point, NJ Apr 2012 – Reviewed Oct 19, 2012

Interview Details – I applied online and the called me a few days later and scheduled me for an interview. They knew I had experience when I went in so I was pretty much automatically hired. When I got there they told me about the job and gave me paperwork to fill out and I was hired. I have been hired by this company twice (relocated so I needed to find a new job) and both times the interview was the same way.

Interview Question – There were no questions as to what kind of employee I would be. They did not seem to care. They hire anyone and if they find out you are a bad worker, they will fire you a few weeks in.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I asked for $10 an hour and they said the best they could do was $9. (They start at $8).

It was pretty clear the job was going to be given to me on the spot. Intervied by the maintenance manager, was given a shoprite booklet. The managers are very helpful, great place to work!

Interview Question – How would you deal with a customer asking you a question in regards to a department where you don't work.   Answer Question
