Interviewed Feb 2012 in Washington, DC (took a day)
This was a very unpleasant experience. I found the e-mail of a senior staff member and sent them a resume and cover letter. She forwarded it to the hiring manager who was obviously annoyed that I had circumvented the normal channels. It was obvious that she resented being circumvented and it was obvious to me that there was no chance of actually getting a face-to-face interview much less being hired.
The hiring manager told me that I did not have the basic skill set despite over twenty years of experience in production, meetings, conventions, and events.
A quick scan of the current meetings and events managers shows that almost all of them have less than 3 years of experience and are extremely young. Many, just a few years out of college. As many of the reviews on Glassdoor state, the staff is very young.
Overall, I would suggest that if you have the experience and skills, look somewhere else.

Interviewed Jan 2010 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Was interviewd via phone first. I felt a little caught off card, since I assumed they were just calling me to set up a time. Questions were fairly basic however, asking me about previous experience and how I dealt with certain situations. I never received any follow up, but again I think my lack of preparedness contributed to this.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Met with two employees separately in downtown office. Nice building near Chicago River. Reputable company. People seemed friendly enough. Could be a long commute for many people, though. Overall, seemed like a good place to work.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 2 weeks)
I was contacted through a résumé posting site, which I thought was impressive as it indicated to me that recruiters are actively seeking talent. It also meant I was somewhat prescreened. After an initial conversation with the recruiter, I was asked to complete an online application and submit my résumé. Shortly thereafter, I was contacted to come in for an in-person interview. I met briefly (perhaps 15 to 20 minutes) with the recruiter. Then, I spoke with the person to whom I would report for about an hour.
After a few days, the recruiter contacted me to come in for a second round of interviews, which consisted of three, 30-minute meetings with people (of various levels of seniority) with whom I would work directly.
The following week, I was contacted with a job offer.
Given my previous experience with interviewing, this process was very quick and straightforward.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Washington, DC (took 3 weeks)
SmithBucklin was very quick about scheduling interviews. I applied and the next week I received an email for a phone interview. 3 days later I was called in for an in-person interview. The overall interview process was quite easy. However, they do not get back to you if you do not get an offer from them which I think is very unprofessional. They should at least send you a quick email letting you know that they have moved on with another candidate so you aren't kept waiting. I emailed two different people twice each; once with a "thank you" and the second time a week after the interview asking where they were in the selection process and never got a response.

Interviewed May 2011 in Chicago, IL (took 3 weeks)
I have interviewed with SmithBucklin twice. After the first interview, I was called the next day and said it came down to myself and another candidate, but that they went with the other candidate. I was then called about a similar position and came in and interviewed with three different people which resulted in being called the next day for a second interview. I was very excited for this opportunity, but a day after scheduling a second interview, they called to cancel and I never heard from them again until I called asking about rescheduling my second interview in which they told me that they had gone with a different candidate. I never received a phone call about the position being filled, nor a reason for the cancellation of my second interview after they had already scheduled and confirmed it with me. Overall, I am unimpressed and disappointed with the lack of professionalism I experienced throughout my interview process. If this is how they treat their candidates, I can only imagine how they treat their employees.

Interviewed Jul 2007 in Chicago, IL (took 3 weeks)
First had a phone interview then asked to come in and meet with 1 HR person and 3 managers. It took about 3 hours to interview onsite and was a little exhausting. I did however like that it only took 1 day and wasn't broken into 3 different days. I was called with an offer about a week later.
