No Offer – Interviewed in Halifax, NS (Canada) Jun 2009 – Reviewed Apr 3, 2013
Interview Details – Called and asked if I was still looking for work, and an interview was set up about a week later after I said yes. I was interviewed by 2 people for meat clerk, which I was not hired for, they called me another week later, asked if I still was looking for work, and offered me a job in seafood with no additional interview required. Questions were typical, "your weaknesses, a time when you handled a difficult situation, why do you want to work for sobeys" tell them what they want to hear, its a grocery store, its just a job, but they want to hear that your values are in line with the stores, and blah blah blah
Interview Question – Just behavioural questions that aren't necessary for such a basic job, "Tell me about a time you worked as part of a team. What was your role within the team, and how did you work together" Just say you were the leader and delegated to the other members, etc... Lie basically. View Answer

Interview Details – I applied online through their website and they were one of the few jobs that called me back for an interview due to my lack of experience. During my first phone call with them, they did a phone interview on the spot. They asked me general questions like " What does it mean to have good customer service?, and "What makes our store different from other grocery stores?" . I got asked to come in for a group interview. During the interview, they asked questions like "What would you do if a customer wanted meat that was on sale from a flyer but the store was sold out?" etc. They had a lot of questions that were meant to gauge your personality and how you handle stressful situations.
Interview Question – We were asked to come up with a meal from a flyer, for or an occasion which we had to make up. (Ex. Pick out chicken, vegetables, tortillas, carbonated water, apple juice and call it a fancy Mexican Dinner Party) View Answer

Interview Details – I applied to Sobey's and was called about a week later, i had a brief phone interview and was told to come in for a "interactive" group interview. The interactive interview has three parts. The first part was to pick any item in the store and sell the product to the interviewer. second part was answering scenario questions, third was to look through a Sobey's flyer and plan a meal by circling the items you would use to create the meal. I received a call from the department manager two days later and was given the job. I had to wait three weeks until orientation. The interview was sooo easy there is no need to stress at all :) However, they will do a criminal record check on you.
No Offer – Interviewed in Mississauga, ON (Canada) Sep 2011 – Reviewed Apr 11, 2012
Interview Details –
I was headhunted by HR and did not officially apply for the role. We had an phone conversation and she was very friendly and conversational. After finding out more about the position, we set up a meeting with the hiring manager.
I was interviewed by the hiring manager, HR and an HR intern. The feel was very casual and it was more a conversation than it was an interview. I talked about my background and experience, I can't remember any pointed questions. It was interesting (perhaps unprofessional a little) that in my questions and answers, it was commented that no one else had answered this way, and no other candidate had so many questions.
I knew someone in the team already and seemed like the expectation in the interview did not match up with actual experience. In the end, I did not meet with a second time, even though they were pushing me to as I was not ready to my current position. I was comfortable with HR to discuss options and my feelings however, despite her friendliness, after I told them of my decision not to proceed, I heard nothing else from them or the hiring manager.
