After turning in an application at the store, I was called by the Store Manager and asked to come in next day for an interview one on one. We sat outside on a bench in the shopping center and she asked me specific questions about my experience in the retail world. I tried to focus my answers on the years of customer service experience I had even though it was not in retail, and all the other jobs I'd had that required attention to detail, multi-tasking, and recordkeeping, for example.
My advice is to try to appear upbeat, confident, willing and able to stay positive no matter what, and when given the chance emphasize that the customer must walk away from her experience so happy that she'll bring back her mother, tell her friends, and become a lifelong Soma customer.

There is an initial phone call that you go through. Then there are 2 interviews (which are done in a group). There is a part in the 2nd interview where they want you to go in the store and shop for one of the managers and "sell" them clothes.They want to see how your sale skills are.

I didnt try to negotiate. It is minimum wage with a small commission when you sell a certain amount.

The interview was very casual. I applied in person and received a call fairly quickly. The boutique doesn't have an office so the actual interview took place right outside of it. I was mostly asked very general questions about myself i.e. what school I went to, how I heard about the company, etc. She also checked my references on the spot and subsequently offered me the job.

Was contacted regarding a position at a new store. Interview was very casual. Questions asked were mostly situational questions like "describe a time when..." and a selling role play scenario. Then phone interview with DM with questions about my management style.
