Interviewed Nov 2007 (took 1 week)
I was initially made aware of the position through an internal posting. Upon applying for the position, I was able to get an interview scheduled. Although there were only two interviewers, (I have been through panel interviews of 6-7 people prior to this), this was the most dificult interview I had ever been a part of. The interviewers were very difficult to read. Even though I had felt it was a difficult interview, I had thought I had done at least a little better than OK. Well, much to my surprise, I had received the dreaded 'Thanks; but, No Thanks' email. You know the one. And I thought that I was very qualified for the position and did interview well. After I had finished explaining to my wife over the phone that I did not get the position, I found that my supervisor had been trying to hunt me down with the hiring manager hot on his trail. Once they found me, they had explained to me that I had received the 'dreaded' email in error!!! Good news, right? Only partially so. I was then told that it was narrowed down to me and one other and that we were required to do a presentation on pre-chosen material. Luchily enough, my presentation won out over the other. Sometimes, it is content rather than fluff that wins. And rest is history. I have been in the position for over 5 years and still loving it!!!
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
When presented with the offer letter stating the salary for the job, I was asked... 'Is that OK?' Well, I was in sticker shock over what I thought was very fair salary considering it was the most I had ever made. However, it wasn't until later that I realized that I had room to negotiate. Moral of the story... even if you think the salary is fair, there is ALWAYS room for negotiation. I know for a fact now that I could have gotten $2-3K more a year.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Group/Panel Interview and a Presentation.
