Retail Sales Consultant at Sprint Nextel

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Seattle, WA Jul 2011 – Reviewed Mar 26, 2012

Interview Details – Started with a phone call, then moved quickly to an in store interview. I was offered the job less than a day later, but I have seen where other applicants have had to go through a 2nd round of interviews.

Interview Question – Performing a sales 'role play' on the spot.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Was able to negotiate salary based on my experience in the field, so my advice would be sure to try and get as much as you can - don't settle for $10/hour.

Retail Sales Consultant at Sprint Nextel

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Sanford, FL Dec 2011 – Reviewed Dec 28, 2011

Interview Details – After I applied online to a store about 30 miles from me, I received an email a few days later asking me to fill out a more detailed application. After filling that out, I was contacted by a store just a few minutes from me. They asked if I could come in the next day for an interview, and I said sure. The interview took about 30 minutes, involving primarily STAR format questions, and questions about my background and sales experience. It was the store manager, and assistant store manager interviewing me. They gave me the paperwork for a drug test, and I took that the next day.

2-3 days after the drug test, I received a call offering me the job. Was a very quick process!

One thing I learned, Sprint stores never hire full time, only part time with the possibility to advance to FT.

Interview Question – Why do you want to work for Sprint?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Had a better offer from one of their competitors.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Seattle, WA Oct 2011 – Reviewed Nov 13, 2011

Interview Details – You apply online and take a skills/personality assessment. If you pass the assessment, you are asked to fill out a more comprehensive application. After this, it may take a while to get a call back. I applied to several stores and was called to interview at one of them.

The interview was pretty typical for a retail sales position. STAR format questions. Define success. Sell me this phone.

After the interview, a background check is run and a drug test is required. This step only takes a few days.

Retail Sales Consultant at Sprint Nextel

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Jacksonville, FL Aug 2011 – Reviewed Nov 1, 2011

Interview Details – I have been trying to work with Sprint/Nextel for about a year. I was in college when I first applied and I recieved a call to interview. Long story short the position got cancelled. I applied online through the corporate website. Following this sprint sent me an invitation to complete an hour long IQ, skills and personality test. About 5 minutes after the test I recieved an e-mail stating that I passed the test and someone from Sprint would contact me shortly. I recieved a call 2 weeks later from a Jacksonville store. I went in to interview with the manager of the store and the senior retail sales consultant, took about 15 minutes. 2 to 3 days later the store manager called me back to set up a second interview with the district manager. A week later I interviewed with the district manager which took close to an hour. 3 days later, I got the job. Ofcourse after I passed the background and drug test.

Perks: no cell or internet bill. I problably pay around 30.00 a month for both unlimited on employee plan, tuition reimbursement and family perks..etc.

Interview Questions

  • What do you know about Sprint/Nextel??   Answer Question
  • Because you have previous mobile experience, what were your activations, accessories etc per week, monthly goals??   Answer Question
  • What do you see yourself doing in the next 5 years???   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation with Sprint/Nextel which I was super surprised about. They offered me 9.75 hour plus commission. I was told 9.75 plus commission was for people with experience since I had previous years of retail and mobile phone experience with another company. I was very upset due to the fact that I have a 4 year degree. Not acceptable. They would not budge on the hourly rate. Other carriers start atleast at 11.00 plus commission.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Baton Rouge, LA Sep 2011 – Reviewed Sep 20, 2011

Interview Details – I applied online and presented my best to them. I was then contacted by the Store Manager to set up the interview. I interviewed twice, each time with two different people. The interviewers were very friendly and professional. They made me feel comfortable and at ease to answer the questions. I then waited for a background check which took a few days and was finally offered the job. I happily accepted.

Interview Questions

Negotiation Details – I felt that the starting hourly wage was fair as I don't have ample experience in retail sales.

Retail Sales Consultant at Sprint Nextel

No Offer – Interviewed in Saint Louis, MO Aug 2011 – Reviewed Aug 16, 2011

Interview Details – Had 2 great 1:1 interviews with both the ASM and the SM at a local Sprint store. That consisted of the typical behavioral questions. Had good experience with both of the interviewers. I was then set up to do a phone interview with the DM. I called the DM up at the given time and knew instantly that I was not going to be hired. The DM seemed disinterested and disorganized. The questions asked were not related to customer service nor sales. The DM pretty much ruined the positive interview experience I had brought home from the Sprint store. Anyways, I'm working for the competitor now so I'm thankful for that.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Victorville, CA Aug 2011 – Reviewed Aug 11, 2011

Interview Details – I applied for the job on the company website and went through the online assessment and questionnaire. I passed the online assessment and was called for an interview just over a week later. I met with the manager of the store where I was asked questions about my work experience, what is my motivation, etc. It was approximately 30-40 minutes during the interview. Many questions were similar to that asked with the online assessment. I asked how many other people were being interviewed, and there were a total of 5 interviewing. About 5 days later I was called in to come in for a second interview, where I met with the manager again and the Lead Sales Consultant for the floor, where she asked me many of the same questions, including my retail experience, and lasted about 15 minutes. That same day I was sent for a drug test, and a week later was offered the job! Of course, I accepted!

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Dallas, TX Nov 2009 – Reviewed Apr 7, 2011

Interview Details – The company is very inconsistent with their hiring process so I had to make my own separate attempts to get in touch with the store that I wanted to work at. The best advice I could give is to ask as many questions as the person interviewing you to be sure that you get the whole description of what is expected of you cause this job is really not for everyone.

Interview Question – What positive effect did your last job have on you that can transition into our company?   Answer Question

No Offer – Interviewed in Boston, MA Mar 2011 – Reviewed Mar 2, 2011

Interview Details – I want to warn people about Sprint Nextel's online skills test. Namely be VERY careful you take the test on a good computer with a fast connection and ONLY with Internet Explorer! When I took it, about 10 questions did not appear on screen, and when I went back to review skipped questions, only about 3 of the 10 came up the second time. So 7 questions unanswered. This may or may not be why I failed, but BE CAREFUL. You will have no recourse if this happens to you!

Interview Question – mostly sales aptitude questions   Answer Question
