Interviewed Jun 2010 in Stafford, TX (took 2 months)
The interview process was long and frustrating. I applied for the position online and received a phone call from the manager. We set up a place and time to meet. This was in May 2010. After the meeting the manager was impressed and said would reach out to let me know about a onsite interview in california. Then the following week he informs me that an 'internal' employee was interested in the same position and had previous experience so he had priority. I appreciated the honesty and the frequent communication with the manager. I hear back almost a month later from the manager informing me that he would like to fly me out to california for onsite interview. Apparently the 'internal' employee bombed the interview. They set up a one day roundtrip to cali for me. I flew early morning to cali, interviewed with 8 different ppl, then A group interview and presentation, then i flew back. It was exhausting!
The onsite interview was all day. First i interviewed with 3 ppl separtely. Questions about my background, interest in their company, some behavioral questions etc. then after lunch i was asked to present a project i had worked on to the panel. I was informed of this before the interview so i had prepared. The vp of some department was also present. It went well and i recieved good feedback. Then i interviewed with the remaining ppl on the panel separately.
I get back home send thank you emails to everyone and wait for them to call bk. the manager calls me back after a week and tells me there is another 'internal' employee interested in the position and has had experience in the position and he will be interviewed also. Then abt 3 wks later i am informed that i am not selected for the job.

Interviewed Sep 2011 (took 3 days)
Internal interview:
poor communication, managers did not give same level of professionalism as would to outside interviewee
did not give followup information - was not direct about results of interview, etc.
In general, the company does a very poor job of training their employees to interview and having a defined process for follow-up with those interviewed

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Saint Paul, MN (took 6 weeks)
The process began with an HR screen. Within the industry I think the SJM Talent Acquisition agents are the most helpful and really sell the company well. It was a pretty general screen which I went through for a few different positions and they blur together. I received a few toughish questions indicating that some of the TA agents actually knew a bit about the products/positions in question, but the majority of the questions were the obvious checks that you are confident, want the job, and you are who you say you are.
Step two was an in-person interview where I met with the hiring manager and a handful of engineers and managers. Each meeting was 1:1. Most were personality and resume-based interviews with the exception of one think-outside-the-box, somewhat technical interview. Once again the interviews appeared to go favorably.
I was called back for another round of face-to-face interviews on site. I met with the hiring manager once again who said they were looking to hire multiple DA Engineer positions and couldn't tell me for which project in particular they thought I may be best suited for. This makes the interview process vague and difficult. Anyhow I met with another round of managers and engineers and answered their personality and background questions admirably. Later that week I was given a competing offer and accepted. I informed the hiring manager to that effect so i'm not sure if there were to be any further interviews or if that was the end.
Overall I thought the interview process was on the easy side, but I also didn't get to the point of obtaining an offer. It did seem like a long drawn-out process however. I was surprised they went right from the screen to multiple in-person interviews and then surprised again when I needed to go back...and they weren't even bringing me back gunning for a specific position, almost like they didn't have a clear handle on their business needs at the time. I did encounter a couple scheduling glitches setting up interviews, but I assume that is just a symptom of big business. The employees were for the most part very friendly. Once again more-so than I saw at other interviews - maybe it's the "Minnesota nice". It seemed like it would be a fairly relaxed work environment, but I can't factually comment on that.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Minneapolis, MN (took 5 days)
The resume for the position was selected from the career fair. It was followed up by a phone interview. This follows an on site interview. The phone interview is usually setup by the HR. He/She calls and fixes up a time where a technical lead will contact you regarding the position. Once scheduled, the lead will ask you some basic questions, which decide whether to bring you on site or not. Once on site, you will have 4-5 rounds of grilling of hardware questions in different fields. Mostly one can expect a solid RF round, Analog Design, Design with Verilog/ digital logic.

Reason for Declining
They take too long to decide and not worth all the pain. Offer a lesser pay compared to others.

Interviewed May 2009 (took 2 months)
Resume selected for on-campus interview, a quick 45-min 1:1 discussion with some typical questions but mostly free style. 2nd round on-site interview was with eight mid-senior management in different functional groups, quite grueling. Interview planning and follow-up were well conducted and communications were prompt.

Interviewed Aug 2011 (took 2 days)
First round interview: I met with the Director of Finance for about 1:00. He gave me more information about the position and asked question about my experience/skills. This was more of a review of my resume. The tone was conversational. After that I met with the HR generalist for a list of about 6 behavioral questions. Second round interview: Met with Director & VP of Finance tone was conversational, selling the company, determining if I was still interested.

Interviewed May 2011 (took 2 weeks)
Two phone interviews: the first with the Senior R&D Engineer and then with the whole R&D team. They were all incredibly nice and just asked basic questions about my resume/project experiences and hobbies. They also inquired about how much I knew about St. Jude Medical.
The team sounded really awesome and I'm bummed the position was cancelled.

Interviewed Nov 2010 (took 3 months)
I believe that my resume was what got me the job. From the first time HR called me, it sounded as if they were very eager to hire me. They did let me know that they were considering other candidates, but would call me back soon. A couple days later, I did receive a call back by the Senior HR with a desire to set up a quick phone interview with the site director and that went very well. The site director sounded more nervous to speak to me than I was over the phone. We finally arranged for me to travel over 300 miles to the site, which the company paid for. Even though I was late to my interview due to getting lost in a nearby town, everyone did not count it against me. I received a tour of the site and met a couple people. The atmosphere was very nice; everyone seemed eager and happy to work there. I was a little suspicious and thought to myself that they made sure the angry workers were hidden somewhere else. We then proceded to a nice sized room for a 7 member panel interview where each person asked about 2 questions each. I was almost sure they wanted to hire me then, but their protocol is to take their time with their hiring decisions. So the first panel interview went well in my opinion and I went away feeling that the company would be great to work for. I waited for about a week and stayed in contact with the HR department through phone calls and weekly emails. I almost decided to put my resume out to other places due to the suspense of waiting a month, but after about a month I was asked back for second panel interview. It was just as hard as the first interview. The questions were very psychological to make sure that whom they picked would have a positive behavior for the company. I again thought the interview went great, but there was still no confirmation that I was hired and the Senior HR person stated that they like to be slow about these things and that they would confir with one another and sent me back to my hotel sort of baffelled on when I would hear something this time. I was elated when they called me an hour later stating that they were going to extend me an offer very soon. Within a couple weeks we set a phone meeting between the Director, Senior HR and myself to discuss salary and I accepted it. The pay is a few thousand dollars less than what I was bringing home, but I believe I made the right choice. I believe the opportunities are great with this company and look forward to my growth and success with them.
