Interviewed Apr 2012 (took a day)
I'm a junior in high school and this was my first interview and job so I didn't know what to expect going in. The interview process was extremely easy (one interview with the EasyTech Leader and one interview with the manager) and took about 20 minutes, but the tech questions were very difficult. Many people interviewing for the position said the test was easy (they said they just showed you a picture of RAM and you had to identify it), but my version of the test was extremely difficult. In my case I had to know DOS commands (ipconfig and ipconfig /all), pins and connectors on SATA/IDE cables, file extensions (.aac and .cab), the difference between DDR1 and DDR2, and a lot of other difficult questions. The person interviewing me said if I had any trouble I could pull out my smartphone and look up the answer. I'm not sure if he was just being nice or if Staples allows this. Just keep in mind if the person interviewing you doesn't allow you to look up the answers, the test would be very difficult to complete.
All in all, the managers were extremely friendly and seemed really excited to have me.

Negotiation Details
I was offered $10.05 an hour. I was so surprised and happy they would offer a 16-year old, first time worker, a $10.05 salary I didn't bother negotiating. So sorry, I can't give you guys any advice for negotiating.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview and a Skills Test.

Interviewed Jul 2010 in Cold Spring, KY (took a day)
To apply, I had to take a series of tests online describing how I would react to certain scenario's, how I would treat associates as well as customers. Once finished, the results are sent to the HR Manager of the store you applied to with a Red, Yellow, or Green light next to your name in the computer. Red, they couldn't interview, Yellow, they prefered not, and Green was good to interview. I only had one interview and got the job, other associates did have one or two. Again in the interview process the Managers asked how i would handle certain scenario's and treat others, as well as sales questions and experience questions, questions as to why you left your previous job. Over all an average Interview, nothing too overbearing.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Orlando, FL (took 5 days)
Applied online through the website - received a phone call literally within 12 hours of my online application, asking me to come in two days later for an interview with the Assistant Manager.
I entered the store about 20 minutes early for my interview, and was told that the interview would be at exactly the time we arranged. I spent 20 minutes awkwardly walking the store, pretending to look at products on the shelf until I was re-approached by the Assistant Manager for the interview.
We went into a storeroom (which was quite odd), surrounded by boxes with two chairs in the middle and the interview began. The questions were very simple, and most of them focused on sales. There were no questions about computer knowledge other than looking at my application, which concerned me, as this is supposed to be a computer repair/installation position but I was asked purely about sales.
Oddly enough, the Assistant Manager was a little too honest about things. He outright said clear as day they were attempting to copy and take business from Best Buy and that my job would be identical Geek Squad. He admitted to me that he felt I would not be paid enough for the position, if I took it - these were his actual words. This later proved to be true - I found out during the second interview that technicians were paid the same as cashiers, while still working registers plus meeting sales goals and repairing computers. Twice the work for the same pay.
We briefly discussed hours, but nothing was set in stone. I was told I would be called to confirm a second interview and take a test on the computer for technical knowledge.
The computer test was extremely brief, consisting of only about 10 questions of incredible ease - it's basically just there to separate people who know nothing about computers to those who basics. I was even shown a picture of a RAM stick and asked what it was.
The second interview was incredibly casual, and no additional questions were asked. The job was already in the bag, and this was just to sign some papers and set hours and training.
Overall, the interview was extremely easy and simple, the whole process taking less than 20 minutes in the store.

Reason for Declining
Even with a perfect score on the test, I was offered the same pay as the cashiers - 40 cents above minimum wage - and I immediately declined on the spot. I had to do the same job as the cashiers, PLUS meet sales goals and repair computers, yet we received the same pay? Absolutely unfair.

Interviewed Jan 2012 in Clifton, NJ (took 2 days)
The interview process consisted of 2 major interviews, one assistant manager and one General Manager. The interview with the assistant manager was pretty easy, going over the job in general, pay, et cetera. A few questions were asked related to tech and my previous working experience. The interview with the general manager was very laid back. The Packers game was on and I met up with the GM with a group of employees huddled around 5 TVs. We all cheered as we saw the packers win and I got to know a few of the employees without even working there yet! They said, "Little dude, we want you here."
Going into the back I talked with the GM. Extremely chill dude. He told me a little about the daily activities in the store and how he likes to make sure that everybody thinks that coming to work is like a party except the only colors you see are red and black shirts. I'm looking forward to hearing back from him tomorrow with the offer.

Interviewed Mar 2009 (took 2 days)
I was interviewed twice. The first time was quick and simple and asked me basic questions about tech (types of hard drives, past experience) but mainly it was standard retail questions. They mainly wanted to make sure I was punctual, and could deal with customers. The second interview was more 1:1 and was sort of prepping me for the job. I guess I had impressed them enough with the first interview that I pretty much had the job.

Interviewed Nov 2010 in Brooklyn, NY (took 3 days)
I basically got a call to come in. I talked to two different managers. My general manager talked to me and asked me to show him that I'm competent on the job. I showed him how I would sell something using a pen as an example.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took a day)
Staples was my first choice as a job. I called up the manager at a staples and she told me she needed techs and that I needed to do the personality test online. So I took the test and a few days later I called her back and told her I took it, she told me a staples closer to me was hiring and that I should get in contact with their GM. I did and she told me to call her and interview. She literally just asked me why do I want to work for staples, and a few simple questions on how I would treat customers. I was soon hired for the company.
