Interviewed Dec 2011 in Milton, GA (took 2 days)
Spoke at length with General Manager, then spoke with District manager the next day. They asked the typical questions such as: describe a time when things didn't go the way you hoped; describe an event in your experience that you are proud of; what is your attitude towards working with people of diverse backgrounds; how have you worked to grow your employees, etc.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 5 days)
Phone interview with one of the recruiters. The recruiter was timely in calling, was very professional, and I felt comfortable with the process.
The recruiter was following a standard script. I was asked to review my resume/work history. Why I left my last employer, how many locations I covered, volume, etc.
I was ask what one thing I'm I most proud of in my retail career.
I was told what locations were open and where I what position I might be consider for. I was ask to go online and fill out the management application. Once that was completed, I was sent a really quick assessment to complete.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Irving, TX (took a day)
The interviewer was polite, friendly and asked the questions he needed to ask. The store was neat and clean. I immediately felt it would be a good place to work. I was brought to the back to a small office to speak with the Asst. Store Manager (when I arrived I waited for a bit while he helped a customer; chatted with the cashier on duty).

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took a day)
The interviewer was very polite and helpful in putting me at ease although I was very nervous despite having prepared myself for the interview ahead of time I wasn't prepared for the situation type questions so I was a bit frazzled by them unfortunately. I'd rate it as being somewhat difficult if you aren't prepared to answer those types of questions and have no prior experience in retail like myself. I didn't get the job, but went back into to speak with them and they have a different position that I might be better suited for so I'm in the process of interviewing for that soon and am hoping this interview will go better then my first with them since I felt so unprepared when I was asked some of the questions which didn't help my nerves during the interview. Just wish I would've found this site sooner since so many of the questions I was asked are posted on here.

Interviewed Oct 2011 (took a day)
The interview process was very interesting at Staples. I was greeted by one individual who was very nice and personable and was looking to mainly understand my long-term goals so they could be sure to hire someone that would stay with them for a long period of time. My next interview was somewhat colder-feeling, and the interviewer was "politely rude", meaning it was almost a stress-test type of interview to see how you handle it, and although it went OK, it wasn't an environment I wanted to be a part of.

Interviewed Oct 2009 (took 3 weeks)
Initial interview was over the phone with the recruiter. The recruiter asked basic questions about my job history listed on my resume. The recruiter felt I would be a good fit for the position and passed me onto the next step in the process - a face to face with the District Sales Manager. Met with the DSM for an hour and was passed onto the next step which is an interview with the Regional Sales Director. I had an hour phone call with the RSD, covered my work history, and lastly my work ethic. The RSD was impressed with my background and skills. He had the recruiter call me the same day with an offer. I negotiated the base and quickly accepted.
Overall, a positive experience. My advice to applicants is to learn everything they can about the company and the position - basically do your research. You will be 2 steps ahead of the other applicants.
Negotiation Details
I was able to negotiate the base salary but it's important to consider the other benefits you will be receiving. I took a slightly lower base than my previous job but other benefits more than made up in additional compensation.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Recruiter and the interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview and a Background Check.
