Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Murfreesboro, TN Mar 2012 – Reviewed Mar 27, 2012
Interview Details – I was called in for an interview for the following day. However, I can't really think of it as an interview seeing as all that was asked was: 'Where do you live', 'How available are you', and 'please fill out this background check'. After three days I was called to be told the check came back fineand I was to start training the following week.
Interview Question – Where do you live? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I had a vacation planned for the first week of April, and that was perfectly fine with the manager.
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Livonia, MI Jan 2012 – Reviewed Jan 15, 2012
Interview Details – I decided to apply to Steak n Shake despite all of the negative comments towards it on Glassdoor. I applied through SnagAJob.com and was called two days later for an interview. I was shocked as I had no restaurant experience, but had tons of teaching experience as a summer tutor and dance instructor. I arrived on time; I would have been early, but it was snowing. Once I got there, I had to wait 5 minutes because the manager who was going to interview me had just walked in the door himself. When he called me over, we sat at one of the booths, and he offered me a drink; I declined politely. He proceeded to ask me questions regarding my education, the distance of my drive from my house to the restaurant, and my past employment. He was very nice and personable; I didn't feel out of place. He then asked me questions on what does "hospitality" & the "Golden Rule" mean to me. He then asked me to fill out a background check form and then walked away from the table. He returned, asked if I was done writing, which I was, and said I had been hired, after talking to the owner, who happened to be there that day. He told me he was very impressed with my application, education, and past employment and think I would fit in well with everyone. I was honestly flattered.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining – That same day, I was offered another position at a different company. Since I go to school, I had to choose one or the other. I called Steak n Shake and politely declined the job offer.
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Cincinnati, OH Jun 2010 – Reviewed Jul 26, 2011
Interview Details – I went in for an interview as a "career fair" type of thing for managers. They liked me and were impressed with my experience and told me that HR would be in contact with me to let me know when they were gonna set me up for a job shadow of the training stores GM. I got a call in a few days and was set up for a job shadow for the next day. Went in and it was really easy and they really liked me and said they would be in touch. I got an email from HR detailing my new job offer and compensation package the next day and they said they would be in contact with me in a few days after my background check came back. I never heard from them again so I don't know what went wrong.

No Offer – Interviewed in Indianapolis, IN Jul 2011 – Reviewed Jul 15, 2011
Interview Details – Initial contact via email to setup a phone interview a week later to an invitation to an "open house" 1:1 interview w/ DM. I did the basic research on the company to customize my responses to their core values. Now I wish I had found this website sooner. I wouldn't have emphasized on my beliefs of positive reenforcement and empowering employees so much and I would probably asked harder questions about manager turnover and why it's so high.

Interview Details –
I applied online through snagajob and received a call a couple of days later for scheduling an interview. I went in about 7 minutes early, had to wait a couple of minutes because of an interview with another woman. Halfway through the interview the phone rang and no one would answer it, so the woman interviewing me had to leave to answer it, which took about 15 minutes.
Some of the questions asked were regarding work experience I had put on my application and what my responsibilities were. If I was planning to go to college, what my career goal was, and if I was planning to go to college in the area. They asked me why they should hire me and why I chose Steak N Shake.
There were quite a few interruptions and she seemed distracted and didn't work towards making the interview feel comfortable.

Interview Details –
I walked in, asked for an application, filled it out, gave it to the manager. He told me to come back Tuesday at 10:30, ask for Melissa. (This was on Fri, if that makes a difference.)
Came back Tuesday at 10:30, asked for Melissa. I was seated by a waitress, and was asked if I wanted anything to drink. I didn't accept because I wasn't sure if it was going to cost (I didn't have any money, so I didn't want to find out the hard way.
I had to wait for Melissa from 10:20 to 11:45, then the manager, not Melissa, of the store comes out and apologizes for making me wait so long. They couldn't find my application. :\
So I wait another 15 minutes, she finally comes out, apologizes for making me wait. She was very nice overall. It looked like she had hand written interview questions, which I like about an employer, because it shows they're not just reading a script and depending on how well you read the script with them, is how you get the job.
I think the time I spent waiting was probably spent getting my background check, because she then asked about any past offenses. It had been on the application and I said I had been convicted of two felonies. LSS, Steak n Shake's policy is 36 mos before they will hire you if you have a money theft felony. (Yes, I know it was wrong, and no one should ever hire me again, but every one makes mistakes and mine just happened to be a huge one. I'm trying to make up for everything by getting a job and paying back everything that I took. )
Anyway, uh. That was alot longer than I had planned on being. >.>
Hope that helps you at all. :)
