Interviewed Dec 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 4+ weeks)
Recruiter contacted me because he had been given my resume by a peer. Promised to send the full job description. Never did. Met with 4 individuals, none of whom knew for which position I was applying. Very unorganized. Recruiter never responded to requests for updates.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 3 months)
Before getting hired at SunTrust, they kept sending me to branch after branch to interview. I should have known then that they were pretty much trying to fill in spots and as long as I had some prior financial experience then they would eventually hire me. They ask the standard behavioral questions (Describe a time... How did you handle that... What was the outcome... Etc...) As long as you tell them what they want to hear and sound sincere and can have believable examples to their questions then the job is definitely yours.

Interviewed Mar 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 6 weeks)
I had applied online through their website. After 1 month, I got an email from a person to schedule a phone interview [time/date was mentioned] regarding an internship position I had applied for. It was a Technical Intern position(Software Engineer/Programmer). The name of the person was given who would interview me. I just searched that name on Google and came to know that the person (she) is from HR Department [to make sure whether it is Technical/HR interview].
Interview Details:-I do not remember all the questions...some of them are as follows-
Asking about the University, my Visa status in USA....After that she started with the questions...
Some situation based questions too....
I was told that there would be another round of interview [technical interview]...but I never got a call back. After giving the interview, I came to know what type of questions are asked in HR interview[behavioral]. This was my first interview......After 2 months I got an email saying you are rejected....

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Powder Springs, GA (took a day)
Unemployment in Ga is hovering over 10% so needless to say I was very excited to land an interview. I was laid off along with several other employees from another bank who was going through financial reorganization. I applied on SunTrust website and was fortunate to receive an invitation for a phone interview. I was even more excited to land a face to face interview.
I interviewed with the Br. Manager and the Regional Manager. The interview appears to be going well until the Br. Manager asked the Regional Manager if he had any questions for me. The Regional Manager first question was in a very accusatory tone he asked me “Companies do not lay-off their best employees why were you laid-off”. He followed that question with another unbelievable question he asked “with a strong resume as yours why are you applying for a job like this”. I felt like he has no idea what is going on in the job market. Then he said to me I have seen many candidates with similar background to yours fail at this job because they only take the job to get into the company. He said the company policy sates you must remain in a position for a year before a transfer will be approved. He also said to me that I will hate coming to work every day. He made a few more surprising statements which caught by surprise.
My advice for other candidate is, if you really want to work for Sun Trust in the NE region be prepared for all types of questions…even questions that appear to discredit you.

Interviewed May 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
I applied online to the suntrust website. I was contacted by a Suntrust recruiter two weeks later and asked to do a mini phone interview. The recruiter set up an interview for a week later. I interviewed with two Underwriting managers who are very bubbly. We had a great "conversation" about my skills and what I had to offer Suntrust.

Negotiation Details
Although I had experience I was offered a salary in the mid point of the pay range. I started to negotiate because of my experience but it was not worth a long back and forth situation. I accepted the offer at the mid point because I am excited about the opportunity.

Interviewed Sep 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 weeks)
Very fast and efficient interview process. HR contacted within 24 hours of online application, scheduled phone interview for 2 days out with hiring manager. Hiring manager barely asked any questions -- did most of the talking. Was surprised to be called back the next day to schedule in-person interview given lack of probing by hiring manager. On-site interview was scheduled 2 weeks out with 5 people - professional development manager, hiring manager's direct reports, and business partners are peer or higher levels. Spent 45 minutes with each, they seemed to be filling out an interview form as they asked questions. Typical interview questions: explain in detail some of the accomplishments on your resume -- how did you achieve them? Other questions probed how you handle interpersonal relationships, management issues, indirect influence, and conflict resolution. Received offer 2 days after on-site interview.

Negotiation Details
Limited room for negotiation due to very tight salary bands defined by job level. Bonus and other non-salary compensation are also highly standardized by job grade. Best negotiation option is to explore if the job can be upgraded to a higher grade position given your experience - higher grades means higher bands and better benefits. I could not upgrade my position (already highest grade for non-management), but I was successful in getting the salary increased by 10%. I asked for 30% more than the initial offer, they countered with 10% as the best they could do. I asked to upgrade everything using a checklist from my top desire to my least: salary, annual bonus, starting bonus, retirement contributions, vacation. Only thing they had flexibility on was salary and there was little there.

Interviewed Jan 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 2 days)
The company conducted an on-campus group interview. The recruiter notified me after my first interview saying that I had made it to the next round. The office seemed more laid back compared to the bigger banks. The three people interviewing me seemed to be from different business areas in the company, and they asked questions to determine if I was a good fit for their business area.

Reason for Declining
