Interviewed Feb 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took a day)
All applications have to be done online at SunTrust.com then a recruiter calls you to set up an interview. I then met with the Branch Manger at the location that I applied for and he conducted the interview. I was asked basic questions like why I wanted to leave the job I currently had, what are my strengths and weaknesses. I would highlight my ability to up-sell products, my customer service savvy and the importance of always following rules and regulations. Retail banking is a fine line of customer service (you get paid and reviewed on Gallup customer surveys on your performance) which means making every single client happy since you never know who will be polled, and making a profit for the bank (refusing to refund various fees, charging clients for services, up-selling them on banking products, protecting yourself from fraudulent clients). All of that is to say that during an interview it would be helpful to emphasize happy resolutions of problems to show your customer service skills (in fact that was one of the questions, like tell me a time when you went out of your way to make a client happy) but also emphasize the importance of always following the rules.

Interviewed Feb 2011 in Alexandria, VA (took 1 week)
Applied online and then got an email to take the personality and skills test. After passing that, I got a call from the recruiter. She sent me to interview at an in-store branch and a regular branch. I got a call from the regular branch only after 20 minutes of the interview with a job offer.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Palm Coast, FL (took 3 weeks)
I applied via online. a few days later, I received an email invitation for an assessment skills test. Approximately 3 days later, I received a phone call from a local recruiter. We confimed an interview with the Branch Manager, Lead Teller And Teller Coordinator. It was pretty much a "panel interview". And a few days later, I received an employment offer via email.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Johnson City, TN (took 4 weeks)
After an online test, there was a phone interview with a woman from Knoxville that ended by scheduling a 1:1 in JC. It was at the office on Roan St. in the top floor. The banks always seem to have very nice furniture. Standard questions, seemed like a good guy to work for. He had his secretary taking notes. Pretty much regular STARS questions.
Got an offer about 2 weeks later. Went to Knoxville for fingerprints and urinalysis. It turns out I am unable to work for an FDIC insured institution until next year.

Negotiation Details
There was no negotiation about having to rescind the offer. FDIC requires 10 years for certain charges. Their hands were tied. But I would totally work for Suntrust, even if having to start as a teller.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Johnson City, TN (took 3 weeks)
The position I applied for first was a part-time position. I guess it grew into a full-time position, because I received "no longer under consideration" very quickly. Then, I noticed a full-time spot on the site. I was contacted by a recruiter, who sceduled a phone interview. At the end of the phone interview, I just kept talking and made it to where it would really be ackward for her to not put me through. This works every time for a phone interview if done right and you haven't shot yourself in the foot to bad during the Q/A part.
The in-person interview was at a big office in the penthouse. The furniture was really nice, the whole scene was a little intimidating. He tried a new sheet, which had to same questions just phrased to eliminate canned answers. I remember finishing almost every answer thinking, "what was the original question?"
That means it time to wrap it up! The secretary threw her glasses on the table at one point, as if I can't read body language. I was nervous, excited, and, unfortunately, rambling.
The recruiter contacted me three weeks later to offer it to me.
