Interview Details – Had initial phone screening with an HR rep focusing on basic questions like why I'm looking to make a move, my background, and to describe my most difficult technical challenge and how I overcame. The HR rep seemed satisfied with my answers and ended the call by saying next-level interviews with the potential hiring managers would be setup in 1-2 business days. 1 week later she called my recruiter to say they won't be proceeding because I didn't provide enough technical details in my answers. Very odd--one typically doesn't go into depth at an initial HR screening and you'd think they'd ask for more depth if they want it.

Interview Details – Process is very slow and can be drawn out over multiple weeks given the number of applicants SIG interviews regularly. Initial interview is a 30 minute phone screen with an internal recruiter. She uses that information to determine for which positions, if any, she will present you. Next is a 45 minute phone screen with the hiring manager. This will include behavioral and technical questions. If you get beyond this, you get to the hard stuff. The next interview is in-person over a 5 hour period. You will be interviewed by 4 pairs of developers (one after the other) and one or two senior managers. The developers will ask probing technical questions and might have you write code on a whiteboard. The senior managers will ask behavioral questions.

Interview Details – Contacted via email, I networked to find the position. Overall a good experience, though answering math questions via phone was somewhat nerve wracking due to the awkward silence.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Philadelphia, PA Jan 2013 – Reviewed Mar 17, 2013
Interview Details – I was contacted by SIG after they received my resume from my school's resume book. The initial phone interview was with their recruiter Tara. She was very friendly, and this particular interview focused mainly on my background and interests and career direction. The point of this interview was for her to see if I was a good fit for the company. The next interview was also over the phone, and was with Doug, who was the head of their quant research group. The phone interview lasted for roughly an hour, with the first half dedicated to discussing the history of the company, and with the second half dedicated to technical questions. From here, I was invited for a final round on-site interview. This was an all-day interview, starting at around 9:30am and ending around 3:30pm. Lunch is provided, but you have one of your interviews over lunch. This interview includes several math questions, several finance questions, and a few questions about programming (I was trained in Java and not C++, so they didn't ask me any OOP questions). Most questions were on algorithms and memory management (how to handle what happens when you have more data than you have memory). In addition, they gave me a data analysis exercise once the on-site interview was scheduled, to be finished the week before the interview. This provides them with a code sample to discuss during the interview.
Interview Questions
Reason for Declining – SIG would have been a fantastic place to work, and anyone who gets an offer from this company should be thrilled to get their attention. However, they are located in Philadelphia (whereas my wife and I live in New York) so I would have had to be separated from my wife for the 10 weeks. Also, SIG was not my top choice, and later in my interviewing I was fortunate to get an offer from Goldman Sachs that I chose to accept.

Interview Details – The fit questions were as expected, and the game theory question was a simple iterative question. The culture seems interesting however as it is a trading office they have no cafeteria and you must eat at your desk. The culture is still very team based as everyone works in smaller trading pods focused on different sectors.

Interview Details – Sent my resume through school's career website and they got back to me in about a week and a half. Interview consists of probability and expected value questions. Easy questions, I just messed up on trivial things.
