Interviewed Jul 2010 in Bala Cynwyd, PA (took 1 week)
For development co-op positions, SIG is usually looking for candidates with an interest in technology. They want hard workers, who can take on challenges on their own. I had two interviews, one over the phone, and then one in person. The phone interview asked some more basic questions about my interests/goals, and then moved on to some problem solving, involving probability and logic.
For the personal interview, I had 3 separate two-man groups interview me at a time, from different teams. Asking various questions on how I would solve particular problems, personal interests, and past course work.

Here are the two math questions that they asked during my phone interview:
What are the chances of you getting the same number when rolling 3 dice?
What are the chances of you getting the number 6 all three times?
If 5 people of different ages came into a restaurant, and they were seated at a round table with exacty five seats, what are you chances of them sitting in age order?
What if they were seated at a long table with exactly five seats (the 5 people will sit side by side)?

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Bala Cynwyd, PA (took 4+ weeks)
Applied online, got a call from a recruiter about a week later. Had a phone interview with HR - lasted almost an hour. Went over the position, covered my resume, a bunch of behavioral questions. Nothing too difficult. Was called 2 days later to schedule another phone interview - this time with someone I'd be working for. Lasted less than 20 minutes. Basically was asked to go over my resume, then asked if I had any questions. The next day, they called me to set up an onsite interview for the following week. First, I met with 2 people from the trading desk. Went over my resume, asked me a few questions about my skills (focus on the technical skills - ie: Access and Excel). At the end of the interview, they asked me to do a logic problem. Next I met with the guy I had my second phone interview with. He walked me around the building, answered my questions. That interview didn't even feel like an interview. We made small talk, I can't really remember him asking me any questions which seemed kind of strange. Met with HR last. We went over my application, then she told me about the employee benefits.
I left the interview feeling pretty confident, but was informed a few days later that they decided to go with someone else. I don't think my finance background was as strong as they were looking for. However, everyone was extremely nice, the office was beautiful, and they let their employees wear shorts and flip flops to work. Definitely seems like a great place to work.

Interviewed Jan 2009 (took 2 weeks)
First interview was largely on fit and personality, at an academic conference. The two gentlemen I spoke with were very nice and clearly weren't there to put applicants through any sort of grinder. Several days later I had a phone interview, which consisted of a few puzzle problems.
I remember being asked a question about 25 horses, and you want to find the fastest 2 or 3 or 4 (I forget) despite having no stopwatch, and only being able to race 5 horses at a time. (You wish to accomplish this in as few heats as possible.) I struggled with this problem but was able to solve it, in part because the interviewer gave me some helpful hints when I got stuck on the wrong track.
An ensuing phone interview focused entirely on statistics. I was rusty and could not remember anything salient about the chi-squared distribution when it was brought up (for example).

Had a phone interview with the company. Consisted of five probability based questions. Didn't do very well but was left with an overall good impression of SIG.

Interviewed Mar 2009 (took 4 days)
Started with a phone screen followed by a group panel interview and a one on one interview. Mixed bunch of questions ranging from general brain teasers to writing code on a white board. There were definitely stress tests with one of the interviewers behaving extremely rude and arrogant.

Interviewed May 2011 in Bala Cynwyd, PA (took 1 week)
Was contacted from posting my resume on Monster.com about a new position opening up. Had one phone interview at the scheduled time. The interviewer was very friendly and asked basic fit questions with no brainteasers. I was then told at the end of the interview that they would notify me at the end of the week with the results from the interview. I received an email two days later stating they were going to pursue other candidates.

Interviewed Apr 2011 in Bala Cynwyd, PA (took 2 weeks)
Had two phone interviews with recruiters, very nice people. Very little background questions (Why SIG, why trading) and not too difficult probability questions (Bayes theorem), but I stumbled during the second interview and did not get an office invitation. Looks like a great place for someone wanting to learn about options at a well-recognized development program.

Lot's of math questions. Many pretty standard if you've solved a lot of logic/probability puzzles before.
