Declined Offer – Interviewed in Heathrow, FL – Reviewed Oct 8, 2012
Interview Details – Phone Screen with a Recruiter, Conference Call Interview with the Hiring Manager and another manager, a presentation and follow-up interview, and a face to face with a local outside sales director (I was not local.)
Interview Question – Presentation about the company View Answer
Reason for Declining – The org was great, and everyone I came across was incredibly professional and seemed well attuned, and my potential boss seemed pretty awesome, but ultimately I decided against relocating because of the cost. To be fair they were very upfront they would not provide relocation.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Lindon, UT Feb 2011 – Reviewed Aug 30, 2012
Interview Details – I had two telephone interviews each of around 40 minutes and was then invited to an in person interview. The in person interview was conducted by the hiring manager and two senior technical staff where I was asked the normal gambit of software engineering questions and given white board coding exercises. I was also given a written test complete on my own in about 45 minutes. Total on site interview time was around 3 hours.
Negotiation Details – The hiring manager called me with a verbal offer, slightly over what I had asked for. So I was happy to accept the verbal offer. They then did a full background check, financial, criminal, employment, and education and took up references. Only after the background check was complete did they give me a written offer. So, there was actually three weeks between the verbal and written offers.
No Offer – Interviewed in Mountain View, CA Jun 2012 – Reviewed Aug 15, 2012
Interview Details – I was referred internally so getting an in-person interview was easy for me. A would-be peer on a related team seemed to like me in the phone interview. The four people I met with were great. The first interview was the easiest (a would-be peer in the same team) and they got progressively harder. It became clear I was not an ideal candidate by the fourth interview because that person had extraordinarily high standards.
Interview Question – I got asked what salary I wanted and my deflection was not accepted. This was odd to me for a first interview. I choked and asked for way too little because the last interview had gone poorly. This made me look even more unqualified. Answer Question
Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Plano, TX Apr 2012 – Reviewed Aug 13, 2012
Interview Details – I had an interview with a manager who works for my manager, the sales specialist I support, and finally my manager. The entire process lasted less than two weeks. This was an internal transfer within Symantec.
Interview Question – I don't recall one. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – My initial offer matched my annual target pay from my previous Symantec position. However, as it is a pre-sales SE position with commission my annual salary was lower. I countered with a slighly higher base, and that was accepted.
