Interviewed Apr 2012 in Cincinnati, OH (took 4+ weeks)
SEI's interview process is extremely thorough. I interviewed with the MD, COO, and 3 consultants. Each interview felt like a casual conversation rather than a formal question / answer session. It did not feel like a traditional job interview. That is because SEI’s recruiting process is not "by the book." Instead of typical questions that focus only on experience and hard skills, each interviewer equally focused on culture and interpersonal skills. It was important to each interviewer to find out if SEI was a fit for me. Overall a great experience and I'm thrilled to be part of the team!

Interviewed Oct 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took 4 weeks)
It was a really good experience. I was able to meet several people who represented the company. By the end of the process, I knew I was a fit. I knew that technically and personality wise I would fit right in. I wish more companies would strive to take their hiring practices as seriously as SEI does.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Atlanta, GA (took 4 weeks)
I think the interview process is what separates SEI from other companies. Most companies have 1-2 interviews...tops. SEI puts candidates through the gauntlet (6-8 interviews). Candidates will meet with everyone from the CEO and COO up in Cincinnati to the Managing Director and Consultants in the Atlanta office. Culture fit and skills fit are equally important at SEI. That's why the interview process is so thorough. We're trying to make sure the candidates are a good fit for SEI...but also that SEI is a good fit for them.

Interviewed Aug 2011 in Boston, MA (took 2 weeks)
I interviewed with 8 different consultants including the MD of the Boston office. All of the interviews were in-person and two were over lunch. Although it seemed like the interview process is extensive, it is a way for SEI to get to know you and for you to get to know SEI. With a small firm, this is important. The consultants asked me focused and direct questions about my experience.
During the interview process you have a chance to meet with a number of consultants with various tenure at SEI. This was great so I could get a mix of perspectives on the company and client experiences. They are very upfront about the model and discuss it in detail. Looking back, this is an important aspect of the interview process since SEI is different than the typical consulting firm. In the event you get an offer, it is important you understand and are comfortable with the model.
All of the interviewers were on time, so it was good that I got to each location about ten minutes early. During the interviews I got a great understanding of the culture at SEI. The consultants seemed like a tight knit group which was a bonus for me since I was looking for a company with a culture like this. Additionally, they were all pretty honest about client experiences...the good, the bad, the ugly...which I appreciated. Although their interviewing takes place in Starbucks, don’t let this fool you – they only take the best.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Phoenix, AZ (took 5 days)
I went through a succession of interviews, all of which were over coffee or lunch. Each interview was relaxed, at least in part due to the setting, and every consultant I met with was friendly and professional. Rather than a series of textbook questions, each consultant led a conversation which allowed me to talk about my experiences and how they were relevant. In each interview the consultant explained more details about the model and was able to answer any questions I'd thought of. Two of the interviews were more technical and the questions ranged from straightforward, exam-style questions through to long discussions about methodology and real world implementations.

Interviewed Oct 2011 in Boston, MA (took 3 weeks)
The interview process or the "gauntlet" as they call it provided a unique approach to getting in the front door. I had 1 phone interview and 8 meetings in non-traditional settings such as Starbucks and restaurants. The conversations were less about hard skills and more about soft skill situational approach. The process reminded me of a form of "just lunch" (dating service) where both myself and the interviewer were trying to see if there was business chemistry.

Interviewed Dec 2011 in Cincinnati, OH (took 2 weeks)
My interview process started with the HR recruiter and a phone interview. From there I was invited to come in to the office and I had a series of interviews, in addition to several off-site interviews. The process took approximately 2 weeks and I spoke with 7 people. The office set up is ideal for a boutique consulting firm. It has a very open concept and tons of natural light that makes it cozy and inviting.
Although the interview process is long the company wanted to make sure that it was not only a good fit for them, but also for me. All of the people that I met with were very positive about the company and they all showed pride in their work not only with their clients but also the extracurricular work they do to make sure the company continues to be a success.
I interviewed with people in my region as well as outside the region, which reinforced the fact that the culture is ingrained throughout the company. During the course of my interviews I thought that perhaps what I was experiencing was too good to be true; however no matter how many ways I asked “What is one thing you would change about the company…What is one thing you don’t like about the company…” I never received a negative response about the company. In fact the responses I received had more to do with the individual and how they wished they had more time to get involved with more activities for the company. And that is when I knew it was the right place for me.

Interviewed Jun 2011 in Boston, MA (took 5 days)
My experience can be categorized into a 3 step process:
a) The upfront screening was a thorough overview of my skills and motivation fit into the organization while I was able to learn that SEI provides the agility, consistency and personal attention of a local partner while providing the reach and knowledge assets of a national organization (at the consultant layer, clients of SEI don’t just receive a person… they receive a ‘single point of contact’ backed by an entire network of consultants across all offices in the nation).
b) The managing director of the office met with me face-to-face where he reviewed the company structure (employee ownership model which is unique and attractive) and found out more about me (the person). This was a collaborative meeting (much like the culture of The Company) and we decided together whether or not it made sense to move the interview process forward.
c) I then met with six consultants and the excitment of working with SEI Boston grew with each exchange. While discrete, I could tell that each meeting was drawing from me a different dimension (motivational fit, skill set, cultural fit, experiences, client facing ability, etc) to reach a conclusion for one thing... will she serve SEI clients and the organization well.
In summary, the due dilligence process and emphasis placed on this upfront vetting process speaks volumes to the success of SEI consultants. Further, there is a large volume of SEI consultant callback by clients because of the confidence level with their talent... simply said, these folks are 'proven'.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Cincinnati, OH (took 6 days)
The interview process with SEI was lengthy, but was a great way for both SEI and me to get to know each other better. And, most importantly, to determine if the "fit" was good for all involved. I was not actively looking for a new job, but was certainly ready for a change and open to new opportunities.
The interview process began with meeting the recruiter, the Managing Director and finally the CEO. This was the first day and took about 1.5 hours. Instantly, I was intrigued and impressed with the people I met, which was my signal to stay in the game and see what else they were going to throw at me. The process then progressed to their consultants interviewing me. Over the course of a week or so, I met with five of their consultants who attempted to gauge my professional knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as how well I would fit into the SEI culture. For me, it was an opportunity to pepper the consultants with my questions that would help me understand how SEI works and if I wanted to become a member of their team. In the end, I felt the interview gave me the opportunity to gather the information I needed to make an informed decision. And, I feel they were able to get a good cursory sense of me as a person and professional.

Interviewed Sep 2011 in Atlanta, GA (took 5 days)
Recruiter spent all their time trying to sell me on the company and their "pyramid scheme" compensation model. Many 1-on-1 interviews held outside the office (never saw the office). Questions were generally easy. The leadership had something against their competitors and larger traditional consulting firms, at times had negative things to say (which weren't supported). Skill within the company seemed decent, but they were generally unpolished when it came to presentation. Couldn't really determine what they were looking for, they said they were picky, but it wasn't clear what the desired attributes were.
