Interviewed Jun 2011 (took 4+ weeks)
Interviews were unstructured, conversational. The focus was on my selling experience and on the company's plans for the next couple of years. Interviewed with regional manager first. After that, was asked to complete online personality test. On second meeting (a week later), my would-be branch supervisor was also present, interviewed me for about an hour. I got the impression that they valued my varied experience, and were very excited about the company's plans for the future. Also, before formal interview, I was invited to visit the branch and visit with another IC--which was very helpful. Everyone I met seemed relaxed, yet professional.

Interviewed May 2011 (took a day)
I didn't make it past the phone interview. The interviewer was constantly typing away on a keyboard and was clearly not interested in what I had to say. It seemed her job was to ask a set of questions and record my answers. There was no small talk and I did not feel the interviewer was very personable at all. I could not make a connection with the interviewer and consequently didn't receive an offer. I place 85% of the blame on me and 15% on a poor interviewer.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Boca Raton, FL (took 1+ week)
After submitting resume on-line I was contacted by Branch Manager for an interview. Branch manager conducted the entire process. 1st interview was an hour. No tough questions, just around what I knew about company and how I performed at previous firm. It was a get to know you session. I was called back for a second interview th following week. A little more talk about previous performance and was then told about pay structure. I asked for the job and was hired on the spot to start in 2 weeks after they check references and my u4.

Interviewed Sep 2009 in Las Vegas, NV (took 2 days)
I found the job listing on the career sites (indeed, monster etc) and put in my application online. I was called the same day for a phone interview with the local branch manager. After we spoke he emailed me a Sales Key test. The test was 244 questions and it took about 30 minutes to complete. The next day I went in for a 1:1 interview with the branch manager.
The way I understood the position you will be spending 70-80% of your time on the phone calling warm leads and doing business most sales over the phone. Walkin and in person appointments are not as common. The position appears to be 90% sales and very little admin/service work. The base pay for this position is around 40k with quarterly bonus potential. I also found out the salary range for the customer service person is around 39k with small bonus.
The office was very modern and everyone had offices. It seem very quiet and no customers where in the lobby while I was there.

Interviewed Aug 2009 in New York, NY (took a day)
In the end the firm just didn't feel like a fit for me. The manager I met with basically told me that the firm is just positioning itself into a new market and they are still ironing out the training process. I felt like it was a little too rookie for me at this point in my career. They also have no access to insurance. I have a planning background and don't see how one could logically plan estates and such without it.

Interviewed Jun 2009 in Cary, NC (took 5 days)
After connecting with the branch manager, he explained the first step would be a phone interview which we scheduled for another day. Phone interview lasted about 20-30 minutes. I was asked about my experience and background, why I wanted to work for TD Ameritrade, situational questions, my professional goals, and performance expectations of the role. Phone interview went well enough that I was invited to a 1:1 in-person interview at the branch office. Upon arrival, I had to complete an employment application, then I was directed to an empty office to complete a computer-based sales assessment (1 hour long). Met with the branch manager to discuss in more detail my experience, goals, work ethic, examples of success and how accomplished. I was then instructed to contact all the Investment Consultants to ask them questions about the role. I made the calls, then attempted to follow-up with the branch manager, eventually having to leave a voicemail. He never returned the call. Through an inside contact, I learned there was never an opening; the branch manager simply likes to interview candidates in order to develop a pipeline of prospects in case one of his employees leaves the company. Disappointing because the branch manager represented himself as if there was an actual job opening.

Interviewed Jun 2009 (took 5+ weeks)
Phone interview with hiring Branch Manager, followed by one on one interview in person. Then was interviewed by other Consultants in the office on a one on one basis, followed by another interview with the Branch Manager and a personality test. It was important to the hiring manager that I would fit in with the team and that I was coachable. Everyone was honest and up front about the position, they even had me interview with an Investment Consultant who was leaving the firm to insure the position was "right for me."
