Interviewed Oct 2009 in Kent, WA (took 2 weeks)
Interviewing managers give an inaccurate impression of the company and of the work that will be performed.
First interview: 2 individuals (departing team supervisor, and team leader) Friendly, up beat.
* Questions about excel skills, project management experience.
* Talked about company culture and how this was a "great place to work"
Second Interview: 3 individuals (departing team supervisor and two team managers)
* Questions about excel skills, previous experience
* There was a lot of cryptic, quick discussion between the interviewers that felt a bit unprofessional. They did not strike me as career professionals (and, in fact, I found out later that one of their past management experience included only fast food)
3rd Interview: 4 individuals (the same three from before PLUS one of the lower executives
(By this point, I had a really bad feeling about this company--beige cubicles, with no employees facing outward, all with their faces into the corner. Everyone stopped talking as managers walked by. )
* Questions about stress management
* Lower level executive appeared to deliberately come across as unfriendly. She made little eye contact and even when she smiled, it was not friendly.
Forth interview: President
(By this time, I had all but been offered the job)
* He talked and talked about how TMX was a great company and there was SO much room for growth. (Both claims turned out to be inaccurate)
* He barely asked me any questions. His office was unreasonably large but with mid-grade furniture--very "good ol' boy", which proved to be a very good example for the rest of the company.
Interview Questions
Negotiation Details
They offered at the top of the pay grade ($38,000). I asked for two thousand more (through my recruiter) and they declined.
IMPORTANT: They did not disclose that the position was HOURLY PAY until after the negotiation was complete and papers were signed. All impressions were that it was salary pay, as would have been customary for a project management role.
Other Details
I got the interview through a Staffing Agency and the interview consisted of a 1:1 Interview, a Group/Panel Interview, a Skills Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.
