Interviewed Jan 2010 in Oakland, CA (took a day)
First off you have to pass a computer test that included basic english and math along with x-ray photos that you have a limited time to scan in order to pick out certain objects. all in all test is not difficult.
If you pass the computer test next is the interview. I hear larger airports give panel interviews but my Oakland airport interview was with one HR employee. Situational questions about how you dealt with normal customer service scenarios in previous jobs were asked.
At some point you have to take a drug test and tsa conducts a background investigation

Interviewed Mar 2012 in Savannah, GA (took 3 months)
Applied online, received email about Computer Based Test (CBT). Scheduled for two plus hours, took less than an hour. Already had a clearance TS/SCI, so no issues with this. Received email a few days ago asking if I was still interested, I said yes, then we discussed money. This job was listed as part time and salary between 29.5k and 45k a year. This was NOT the case, the man said I would be making about 14k a year, LESS THAN HALF the amount listed. I explained that I was not interested in a job that paid that little. I also ask if I could remain in competition for other jobs. Was told yes, ANOTHER LIE, the next day I had a status of WITHDRAWN on my status and a BIG RED X. I sent an email at the HR Dept. only to get a response of they could not change the decision since I declined the job. I called HR, got the same BS run around. Not a very good experience with this company. I am a VET with 30 plus years experience and an advanced degree. I not so politely ask HR to remove me from their files and have a great day.

Interviewed Nov 2011 (took 2 months)
Recieved an Email to take the Computer Base Testing. Passed and accept contingent offer on the same day. Got interviewed a couple months later. It was a really long process. After the interview they take you to get your medicals done and they test your strength. You basically got the job if you pass everything including the FBI background screen for a National Security Position (Security Clearance). It take a while for the whole process to clear. Accepted a firm offer of employment once my fingerprints came back two weeks later after the interview and medical.

Negotiation Details
There is no negotiation. Whatever they offer you is what you get so take it or leave it. Most screeners start out part-time. If you really want the job, be very motivated and have alot of patience. This is not your ordinary job. It is a long step by step process that not many people make far in. So if you really want the job, be honest and show that you have what it takes. After they give you a contingent offer, they will give you a form called the SF86, Dont lie about your past because they will find out one way or another risking your chance of employment with the company.
Other Details
The interview consisted of a Phone Interview, a 1:1 Interview, an IQ/Intelligence Test, a Skills Test, a Personality Test, a Drug Test and a Background Check.

Interviewed Nov 2011 in Nashville, TN (took a day)
I recently just had an interview with TSA at BNA. The whole hiring process is probably the longest process in the world. I guess that has to do a lot with it being a government job and all. Well anyway, I went up there to get my interview done and it was me and 2 other women. They sat us down asked us for the information they needed and all that good stuff, then asked which person wanted to actually do the interview first. I volunteered. I go in and its a group interview in which a panel of people ask you theses simple scenerio questions and you answer them. I thought I did pretty good because I was calm and tried to answer the questions the best of my ability. When that was done they told me to hang outside while the deliberate. I waited about 3 minutes when the lady took me back in. I sat down and they said you failed your interview. At first i thought it was a joke bc of how simple the flipping questions were and stuff. I dont know i wasted like 2 months with this process and you look at all the old heads that have the job and you wonder why you dont.

Interviewed Feb 2009 in Charlotte, NC (took a day)
I applied to to TSA by the website and I received an email to come in for an interview. I would say that it was very easy to get a job within TSA as it is a job that anyone can do. I was interviewed one on one in an office. They ask simple questions alot of no brainers. I got a call about a week later asking if I wanted the position I accepted the position and got my uniform and everything. I had to undergo alot fo boring training watching videos to educate on what to look for in the airport etc.

Interviewed Aug 2010 in Chicago, IL (took a day)
Before getting an interview, there is a short written assessment that is pretty straight forward. The interview itself is with 3 other people and is very structured. You are not allowed to divulge the questions but they ask you to give real life examples of how you have reacted in certain situations or illustrating a character trait you possess.
