Interviewed Jul 2010 in Santa Clarita, CA (took a day)
Everyone was very helpful and nice. First they took one group on a tour of the store and the other group interviewed with 2 managers. After your two interviews and store tour you left. Unfortunately I did not receive an offer but it was a very pleasant experience.

Interviewed Jun 2010 in Pasadena, CA (took a day)
First I had a phone interview with a recruiter. The phone interview was pretty easy. As long as you know how to hold a conversation, they will most likely bring you in for a interview.
When they asked me to come in, they told me to expect about 2 hours of interviewing. However, the whole process took about 4 hours. At first they told me that I will interview with 2 people, I ended up interviewing with 4. I first interviewed with a recruiter, and then a store team leader. After that, I interviewed with a District team leader. When I interviewed well and they liked me, they had me interview with a vice president. That was definitely cool.
In between interviews, they had me wait in a breakout rooms. For other candidates, the recruiter kept telling them that they will "assess" or "reassess" their application and they will get a call. Though I am not sure, I feel like they were strong enough candidates and were sent home.
I think that a key to a successful interview is just being natural. Don't force it but be just hold a natural conversation. Answer the behavior questions in a STAR format and tie that into how that could be applied in a target store. Don't forget to ask good questions and DEFINITELY ask them about their previous experiences. You want to interview the interviewer -- Let them talk about themselves.

Interviewed Apr 2010 in La Habra, CA (took 4+ weeks)
I was promptly contacted for my first interview, which I had in-store with the store's manager. A few days later, I was called for my second interview at the same store. The questions were all story-telling, just as others have said ("tell me about a time when..."), but many of the questions were somewhat far-fetched and very specific (i.e. tell me about a time when you knew your boss was wrong and you needed to correct them). After my second interview, the interviewer (who was a store manager from another store in the area) told me to wait while she figured out if I would be able to do a third interview that day. The interviewer wasn't available, so they called me a week later to schedule my third interview, which was at the same store but with the district manager, who asked the same sorts of questions as before.
The interview went well, and the district manager told me she would see where she could place me and that I would be hearing from an HR rep sometime soon. After two weeks, I hadn't heard anything, so I called the HR rep that had scheduled my interviews and she informed me that the interviewer liked me, but didn't see a fit in her district so she passed my resume and interview packet along to another district manager. That manager passed it to another manager, for the same reason. Finally, a month after my third interview, I got a rejection e-mail saying they had decided to pursue other candidates. Start to finish, the interview process took nearly two months.
Luckily for Target, I love their store too much to stop shopping there, but I certainly don't think I will apply for another job with them anytime soon.

Interviewed May 2010 in Buena Park, CA (took 1 week)
I have not yet gone to second interview but first interview was by phone and then I was scheduled for a 1:1 interview two days later and then called the next day to do a third interview the day after that... I was told that it was a three step interview process and that there would be two more interviews. So four interviews total? Or maybe the last one is just when they hire you...? The first interview was based all on questions involving experiences that I have had in both work and school. Be concise and take the time to think through your answers.

Interviewed Oct 2009 in Los Angeles, CA (took a day)
Based off of a behavior type of interview
"tell me about a time when"
They were looking for high impact leadership examples, leadership stories that impact a large number of people. I wish i had more time to prepare for this interview, like knowing what to say, and having my stories down pat

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Los Angeles, CA (took a day)
Target had come to a job fair at my university and I provided them with my resume. I was later contacted by an HR representative by phone who wanted to schedule a phone interview for the sub-store manager position.
The interview seemed rushed and I was interrupted a few times by the interviewer while giving answers--even when answers were brief and concise.
She asked extensively about "leadership" experience, of which I have ample, however she did not want in-depth responses. Leadership is an underdefined term, but I believe she was looking for the textbook happy, go-lucky interpretation of what leadership is. I tried to explain how I felt there was a difference between leadership and management, but again, she would have none of it.
I was allotted 5 minutes for questions. I had many because her description of the position was vague, but she provided little clarity.
Despite the incongruent interview (wasn't quite a stress interview, nor was it informative), I felt confident that I gave smart, clear answers. I was emailed later denying me the position. I still love shopping at Target, but I felt a little relieved.

Interviewed Mar 2010 in Los Angeles, CA (took 4+ weeks)
As everybody has already covered, the Target interview process is heavy on behavioral type questions. I won't go into that much since it's been covered. First, I had a phone interview. They then set me up with an interview at a location 2 hours away. This interview was with two HR managers back-to-back, about 45 minutes each. I was really pumped, confident and vibing with the managers. I was told I did well and a few days later my recruiter called me: "You did well, and we want you to come back for a second round of interviews. Two weeks later, I found myself at the last interview with the DM of the Target district and the store manager. This interview was almost the exact same, but I unfortunately wasn't feeling the "vibe" with these two managers. They asked me a set of five behavioral questions, I asked them a few about the company and position, and in 35 minutes it was done. Now I'm left chewing my nails waiting for a call back or email that I did or didn't get the job. Overall, a pretty good interview experience, I just wish I didn't have to wait so long between interview rounds.

Interviewed Dec 2009 in Los Angeles, CA (took 3 weeks)
I was referred by a friend, after a week or so I received a phone call from a recuiter which was a pleasant experience. After that I had 1:1 interviews with store managers the first interview went very well, the second store manager came with a very bad attitude in other words she came with the "This job is not for you attitude". I finished the inverview process and did my best. I later realized that one of the other candidates was good friends with one of the store managers which means she got the job.
Over all it was a decent real life experience. Contacts will get you a job.
