Seasonal Cashier at Target

Accepted Offer – Reviewed Jan 22, 2013

Interview Details – I first applied online and got a call a few days later for an interview they scheduled the next Monday. The interview lasted about an hour and a half, most of it i spent waiting i a room until the next person came in. I did a total of three interviews, but the last was really just confirming schedules and liabilities... The mangement was a little weird, when i first got there the person who interviewed me first didnt know they were doing an interview that day.
They asked fairly simple questions, why Target? Describe yourself, past experience, have you ever dealt with difficult customers, why would you be a good fit for target.

Interview Question – Describe/tell me about yourself.   View Answer

Seasonal Cashier at Target

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Casselberry, FL Nov 2012 – Reviewed Dec 5, 2012

Interview Details – I applied online and about two weeks later got a call from a lady from human resourses. She was very nice and professional. She told me what positions they had available and that they could only offer approximately 20 hours and asked about my availability. She set up a phone interview with me for the next morning and we agreed on the time and I was told it would not be her but one of the managers. I was called at the agreed time on the dot. The phone interviewer made me feel comfortable. We made some small talk and then he explained to me that this was a relatively new process with Target (the phone interview) and to bare with him. He said it was only going to take fifteen to twenty minutes and he had a few situational questions to ask me. Honestly at this moment I'm not sure exactly what they were but something like If my prior employer was contacted and asked what was my major strength and weakness what would they say. What was a time when I excelled at work in a leadership role and why did I want to work at Target. After each answer he replied "awesome" which could have meant either I did well or that was just his way of acknowledging my answers.
At the end of the phone interview he told me that someone from human resources would be contacting me shortly and thanked me. About an hour later the same lady who called me the day before to set up the phone interview called and set up a in store interview for the following morning at the same time. She told me to go to the guest service desk and they'd help me. Right away after arriving a lady at guest service told me to go to a computer in the front of the store where I had to take another test basically identical to the one I submitted online. Of course it asked all my personal information then a lot of situational questions. It took a little while........maybe a half hour? After I was done I went back to the guest service and quickly was taken into where the offices, break room etc. are. The lady from HR was at her computer but quickly acknowledged me and asked me to take a seat on a bench close by. She kept assuring me that she'd be right with me and it was maybe ten minutes before she came around from her desk and politely asked me to come with her and we went to another room where I watched a brief video of a Target employee interacting with a guest who needed help finding a product. The HR lady told me when the video was over to please come back to her desk and we'd go from there. After I watched it and went to tell her I was done she asked me if I had any questions and I said no. She again asked me to have a seat on the bench and told me that the interviewer would be with me very shortly. I honestly can see why this lady is in human resources. She was professional and very polite......it was only a matter of ten or maybe fifteen minutes before the man who was to interview me arrived. My guess was he just got to work as my interview was eight thirty a.m. He acknowledged me and told me he'd be with me in a minute. We then went into another room where we went into an office and sat down. He told me that he was going to ask me several situational questions similar to the ones I was asked at the phone interview and then he'd send me on my way. One of the questions was why I wanted to work at Target. I think the other ones were what would I do if a guest brought an item to my register that rang up at 19.99 and they insisted it was 17.99 and again what would a former employer say was my greatest strengh and my greatest weekness. I think the other question had to deal with what I have done in a previous job that I excelled at...something like that. It was a short interview and he asked me to go back to the desk and see the HR lady and thanked me.
She was busy but again polite and was with me in a timely manner. I was offered a conditional employment of up to 90 days if I took a drug test within 24 hours of the time of the job offer (Target pays for), passed the drug test and passed a background check. I was given a print out of a mapquest to the place for the drug test and told that it would take between five and seven days. Well I was called back by the HR lady about two hours after I took the drug test and asked to come in the following day for orientation.

Interview Question – I don't think the questions were unexpected as I've researched interview questions online but I am not really good at interviews as I've not had many. I stumbled over one of the questions and kind of drew a VERY uncomfortable blank .......just told the interviewer that I'm sorry I am not a professional interview and if he'd please repeat the question. I was SO nervous at this time.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I wasn't offered any negotiation in salary but honestly was glad to be considered for the posistion. I didn't ask to negotiate.

Seasonal Cashier at Target

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Menifee, CA Nov 2011 – Reviewed Nov 11, 2011

Interview Details – I applied for a seasonal job with Target about 1.5-2 weeks ago. I've applied in the past and never heard anything back but low and behold a week later a woman called me at 7:30 in the morning asking if I would come in for an interview at 11. I said I couldn't so she offered me a 3:30 slot which I took. So I go down to the store and told them what I was there for and a lady sat me down at a computer and I took a questionnaire similar to the one you fill out online the 1st time. Then I sat in the breakroom for about 45 minutes. Then I was called back and was interviewed by a very nice lady. She asked me most of the questions people on here have already posted. I was really nerves and a little jittery but she understood and everything went okay. Then I was sent back to the breakroom and waited about 20 minutes when another woman called me back. She was nice, really distracted, but nice. She asked me some more questions (some were repeats from the 1st interview) and then she offered me a job. She told me their HR person had left for the day and to come back in 2 days. When I came back, I talked with the HR woman (very nice), signed a couple forms and she told me to come back in a week for orientation, pending a clean drug test (which I don't plan on failing).

Overall it was really easy and this site helped me prepare because all the questions people talked about are more than likely the ones you'll get asked.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Nov 2011 – Reviewed Nov 11, 2011

Interview Details – I applied online on Thursday and was called on Mondayfor an interview. My interview was yesterday (Thursday). I arrived 10 minutes early and checked in at guest services. The employee was very friendly and led me to the kiosk where i answered 20 questions about different situations, and had to determine the best and worst responses. After I finished I went back to guest services and she called HR to let them know I was waiting. She called back a few times. there weren't any chairs nearby so I had to stand and wait about 20 minutes for someone to come and escort me to an interview room. I waited 10 more minutes then was interviewed by a very nice manager. He asked me 5 questions, asking me to "tell me time when..." Then we discussed my availability and I was left to wait some more. The next interview was given by an executive team member who was also friendly and laid back. She asked similar questions, a few were slightly different. Afterwards I waited a little longer then the HR rep came back in and offered me the job after i pass the drug and background check.

Seasonal Cashier at Target

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Nov 2011 – Reviewed Nov 5, 2011

Interview Details – Sent in an application, called up the store and attempted to speak with the store manager, took 3 calls in one day to be able to speak to the manager and was offered if I wanted to be interviewed and accepted. Day of the interview I walked into the store casual (jeans and a tshirt) and not in a suit like I had planned to. Was told to go to the back of the store into their break room I guess, sat down and was given an assessment test of 20 questions to fill out on paper. Was talking to a young lady who was also being interviewed there and anyone else who came in to the room (guess Target liked that). I was given 2 1:1 interviews, one right after the other and the second person who interviewed me told me they would like to and are certainly moving forward with me and now would wait for Monday to continue the process. Questions were easy and were read off of a packet where they write down your answers. Questions asked included:
1. Why do you want to work for Target?
2. If we would speak to your old managers/supervisors/teachers what would they say your strengths are?
3. What about area(s) of improvement?
4. Name a time you were assigned to work in an area that was out of your skill set?
5.Name a time you worked with someone to accomplish a goal.
6. Name a time you worked with a team and how you accomplished your goal.
7. Name a time you were asked to work with someone who you were frustrated with and what happened?
Best advice is to stay completely calm, be friendly, smile a lot and be honest with your answers. If you have trouble answering them because you have no work experience, the people interviewing you will help you find a situation in life to refer to.

No Offer – Interviewed in Oct 2011 – Reviewed Oct 12, 2011

Interview Details – I don't know if I got the job, the interview was just today. I wanted to write because it was somewhat different than what I read on here. I came in and was put on the computer to fill out some situational questions. It took 3 people to figure this out. I knew because they told me on the phone. Then I had to wait at the snack bar and both interviewers were there so I am glad I didn't get on my phone and say something dumb. The first was really quiet and not very outgoing so I had to be more reserved. She read my resume' but didn't take it. The other woman interviewed another woman right behind us so I could hear her questions as well as all the other noise in there. After the first left I moved and waited for the other woman who pretty much repeated the questions. There were no 3 folders to see if you got the job and they didn't hire anyone on the spot-they told the other woman the same as they told me. It's did not take all day and they did not offer any drug tests, etc.
