Interviewed Dec 2009 (took 2 months)
I was contacted by a corporate recruiter initially, and had a phone interview with them. I have had two subsequent interviews with district team leads. All interviews were similar, lots of behavioral questions requiring an anecdotal answer. Everyone I have spoken to has been very professional. Interviews are challenging as they require a lot of thinking on your feet. The interviewers will not let you off the hook with a vague or incomplete answer.

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Portland, OR (took 3 weeks)
I was contacted by a Target in house recruiter and had two phone interviews which went very well. I was very impressed with the Recuiter and he scheduled up a meeting for me with one of their District Managers. I was totally unimpressed after this interview. They empasize that they are looking for Sr level Execs to come in and run one store for approx 18 months and move to Dist. Mgr positions. In my in person interview they had the exact opposite philosophy and kept asking if I knew that this was a retail position (duh) and that long hours would be required to run the store, working holidays etc. I knew that was part of the job, but the DM did not look for the skills for moving on in management . It felt like I was interviewing at McDonalds. They do not know what they want. There is a huge disjoint between what the Hiring Managers are telling the recruiters they want and what the Hiring Manager is telling the applicant. These positions have been open for months and they have not found anyone. Hmmm, I wonder why?

Interviewed Apr 2009 in Tucson, AZ (took 2 weeks)
I received a call from their recruiter who had pulled my resume from an online job board. I was asked about my background and if I would be interested in interviewing for store leadership positions.
I then had a second phone interview that was behaviorial based with 3 specific questions and I was asked if I had questions about the company and/or position. I then had a third interview with a District Leader.
