Interviewed Jul 2010 in Newtown, CT (took 3 weeks)
It took several weeks to get a response. The initial communication was from an assistant to set up a phone interview. When I asked if there was anything special they wanted me to prepare, the answer was no. Kind of a tip-off that they weren't seriously interested. I prepared by researching the competition and reviewing back issues. Pointless. The phone interview was brief and focused on the low salary (upper thirties to low forties) and availability for travel. There was no sense of enthusiasm for the position or the company as a whole--just a sense of going through the motions. Although I was led to believe otherwise, there was no further contact, not even an email rejection.
Given the cost of living in the area and the low salaries offered, the high turnover isn't surprising. If you're considering a position with Taunton, you'll need either a trust fund or a high-earning spouse to survive in Fairfield County. If you're a single parent, be prepared to struggle and keep those moving boxes handy because your stay is unlikely to be long.
In less than a year, the position was open again along with many others. I'm not sure whether they routinely show employees the door or if the staff is beating a path to the exit.
